Wrist Pain update (from a while ago)
« on: May 21, 2009, 07:39:18 AM »
Hey guys, I don't know if you remember, but I made a post about extreme wrist pain I was in, to the extent where I can't even hold a 10lb bowling ball.

Well, 5 x-rays, 1 MRI, and 1 CT Scan later, we have an answer. The CT Scan (of course, that last scan I get done) showed that I have fractured my triquetrum bone in my wrist. This puts me out a whole month, after i've already been out 5-6 weeks already. I'm in a splint now. I had the option of a cast, but i'd rather a splint.

Did anyone ever fracture their triquetrum here? If so, how fast was recovery? Was it hard bowling again, or doing whatever again?

Thanks!

Geez! I didn't even know I had a triquetrum...

Good luck, Brian, with your recovery and subsequent rehab. Got a 14 lb. ball to throw for a week or two?

Lane, I haven't heard of a triquetrum either until I fractured it.

Actually, on the note of 14lbs, that's all I throw. My wrist is very weak to begin with (thanks, Mom's bones), so all I throw is 14lbs.

Did the doc say how it got fractured?

Was it bowling, or something else?

Well, we asked if it can possibly be an overusage type thing from bowling (although it's not like I do 100 games a week), and he said typically, a fractured triquetrum comes from someone falling on theirself and putting a lot of pressure on that part of the wrist. My wrist has always been weak like I said, though. I don't remember hurting it any other way than bowling, possibly. It just sucks, there goes another month of no bowling..

+ I have a NIB Smash Zone and Rattler to punch up. Now they gotta wait.

Take your time and let it heal correctly. I fractured my lunate bone and partially tore a ligament in my wrist. After 2 months of not using the wrist everything looked good and x-rays were normal but when I started back into my normal routine the ligament let go and the fracture opened way up. I had to have surgery to repair the ligament and to put a screw in the fractured lunate. Its been 10 months since the initial injury and 6 months since surgery and I'm just getting ready to get a 12lb ball drilled next week. Hopefully yours heals good and you don't have to go through what I did but just take your time and you should be fine.

Brian....listen to what this guy is saying.  I know you wanna get back to bowling and all the other things that you do that require that wrist....I did too, on three seperate occasions (broken left wrist, broken right wrist, broken middle finger).  Let it heal properly and completely.  A lot of people don't understand how important this is.  You said that you have weak bones....if you over stress it now before it has completely healed, you can open yourself up to worse problems later, that could take you out of the game for a much longer period of time.

I know it sucks, but let it heal completely.  Once it has, find some exercises you can do to build strength back up in that wrist.  Once you get some strength built back up, then go back to bowling.  Don't chance it and hurt yourself worse.

I agree.  I didn't break anything, but I wrecked it pretty bad in May'07.  Tried going again after 1 month and made it worse.  Was out for about a year.  Not fun at all.  Take your time.
