Is your league sanctioned? Do you care?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:19:53 PM »
Been a lot of people talking about the USBC and the future of bowling. The USBC has been little more lately than a beurocratic anchor around bowlings neck, and I think people are starting to be fed up with it and have had enough.

I would like you guys, and gals, to answer a couple of questions for me. Lets see just what everybody thinks about this.

1. Is your league sanctioned?
2. Do you care if it is or not?
3. Are your leagues considering NOT sanctioning?
4. Would you bowl in an UN-sanctioned league?

No I dont care if it is sanctioned or not.
No they are not
I would Rather bowl unsanctioned just to slap USBC in the face.

My league is sanctioned

I do care if it is or not.

They are not considering.

Only a small summer league. Anything else sanctioned.

1.  I'm not currently bowling, but most leagues I have bowled were sanctioned, and of the ones I know of that are still going, they are still sanctioned.

2. No. A league can make up and agree to its own rules.  As for the bonding thing, some houses take care of the money to not have to deal with the headache that comes when money disappears.  Despite the USBC supposedly guaranteeing it, the house takes a huge amount of blame (wrongly so, but it still happens) when money comes up missing.  Some have started doing it as a service to the leagues, and to guarantee the situation doesn't come up to anger and potentially cost them bowlers.  Besides, can't you get a league bonded without the USBC being involved?  Plus, it's not like awards on league night mean anything.  Most prefer cash anyway, thus the death of the league trophy.  And again, the league can have it's own awards made if the members really want them.  Seriously, does an award that says "In recognition of 9~ for bowling 300 in the Mens Classic League 2009-2010 season" really mean that much more to the recipient if it has "USBC" stamped on it as well?  I don't think so... It still says the same thing, and with USBC's lax enforcement of technology use and lane conditions (especially in league settings), does having "USBC" on that award really make it any more or less legitimate?  I don't think so.  I could use the same illegal ball on the same illegally oiled lanes and shoot the same score. USBC will never check or know, so what difference does it make to have their name on the award?

3. Of the leagues I used to bowl in, I don't think any of them would/have/are considering it.

4. Yes.  Unless I want to and plan to bowl sanctioned tournaments, then I seek out a sanctioned league to get legal.  Otherwise, who cares as long as the money issue is secured.  Otherwise, I'll select my league based on MY convenience.  What night I want to bowl, and how many weeks I want to bowl.  Whether it's sanctioned or not won't be a concern (again, unless my purpose is to bowl a tourney at some point that year).
