Am I missing something?
« on: May 04, 2004, 05:30:47 PM »
I saw a review by recognize_talent on the Flash Force, and here it is.

i havent brought this ball and dont intend to. this ball is the same as the flash point, with a different cover and not to say thats a bad thing. this ball will react with the same everything of the flash point. the only difference is that this ball will have less abilities in the oil bcuz its cover is not pearlized. other than that get it to the dry and it will make the trip back.

I don't claim to be a rocket scientist, but I have noticed on occasion that solids tend to hook more in oil than pearls.  So I wrote him a message.  Don't remember exactly what I said, but it something to the tune of telling him it was a bad review, I thought he was a spammer, and that he should read a book (the high points).  Sooo, here's his reply.

r u deaf, blind, or dumb? and surely u cannot be working in a pro shop and not know that a pearl will have better qaulities in the oil than a solid would. no one said that a pearl cover would be best for the oil seeing that a pearl wont hook in oil. but it is well known that pearl covers hold a whole L of a lot better in oil than any other ball cover. could be also that u suck and dont know how to tame pearl cover balls, watever the case, stay out of my reviws and just stick to writting your own. o and before you tell someone to read a book make sure you know what they do for a living. you know how to drill a ball but you dont make them, i do. so like it says in the review and like we say here at storm. the ball will do the exact same but will be on the tammer side of things. u pro shop guys are all the same. thank you and enjoy your storm.

Am I missing the big secret that pearls hook more than solids, or is he just talking about more hook on the backends, or what?  Is Storm also inaccurate on their pattern length and pattern volume charts where it shows that the Flash Point is QUITE a bit weaker than the Flash Force?  Do I owe this guy an apology?  Look at that review and tell me you don't think he's another spammer.  Here are the links to the charts I was referring too

If that guy works at Storm, it must be in a high-level maintenance capacity, as in taking out the garbage.

I know this maybe sacrilegious for this site is Ball Reviews but I don’t look ball reviews at all.

When in virtually all cases you know nothing of the bowlers style, speed, revs, or tilt or the lane condition, plus all the junk reviews put out there it is not worth my time. Oh they may post this information but how accurate is it. We all know that one persons dry is another persons flooded condition.

The manufactures write ups and specs tell me as much or more.

I do not really read other reviews, but I try to be thorough in mine. I start with a mini review after the first 5-10 games usually, and give an idea what I saw out of the ball.

I totally disagree with people posting a final review on a ball after they take it out the first time. I do not care how good of a bowler you are, do you really think that you can tell that much about a ball after 3 games? It has not started to soak in oil, it has not begun to track a little, and odds are in 3 games you have not thrown it on more than one condition.

I try to be fair and honest in my reviews......then I see crap like this guy wrote------what a waste of a username!!!

I can count on one hand how many times I've read reviews.  I'd rather ask a regular poster here outright for ball advice than wade through the spam posted there
