Am I the only 220+ average bowler without a 300 game EVER?
« on: December 08, 2003, 09:07:48 PM »
I'm getting ready to pull all my hair out!  I average 220 or better and have been for about 3 years now.  Here's my pain.  I've never once had a 300 in league play.  I've had several during practice and money games, but not when it actually counts.  When my ball driller heard this, he started to get a good laugh out of it.  I want to know if there are any other shooters in here with the same problem as me.  Oh yeah, another funny thing is that I've had 2 800's in league, just shot consistent scores but not honor scores.

I'm kind of in the same boat.  My three 300's came when I was averaging around 210 (3-5 years ago).  I've been over 220 for the last 3 years and haven't had more than the front 9.  It really doesn't bother that much though as I'd rather go 240's, 230's, 240's and make a killing in the brackets as opposed to 190's, 300, 190's and not win as much.

Yep, one of the very few, considering that even 180 average bowlers sometimes luck them out.  You'll get one eventually.  I'm probably gonna end up in the same category.  It'll either be an 8 or a 9 pin every time too.

I know a guy like you.  He ran one of our proshops in town.  Very consistent 220 average bowler.  Did very well in many different tournament formats.  He can play just about any line and changes hand positions with the best of them.  I'm not sure about 800 (I think his high is in the 790's), but he has yet to throw 300.  It will come.

Hey, I have been there.  I avg. 220+ for five seasons
before I threw my first 300 game.  It can be very frustrating.
To Make matters worse I coached 2 of my best friends and my wife
to honor scores before I ever got mine.  I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!!

Congrats on the 800's - I'd be happier with an 800 than a 300 any day, but I can understand your frustration.

See, that's my problem... I guess I'm too good to slop my way to a 300, and not good enough to shoot 800.  Sucks to be me! LOL.

The answer "Yes".

The problem.  Usually one has not "seen" oneself doing it before etc.

Often one feels they need more time to get ready or they are not worthy.

The solution.  Silva mind method, or Psycocybernetics.  Available at most bookstores or over the web.  Read, practice the methods, and get ready for a change in your life.  I've used both during times of wonderful success in my life and then neglected them, why?

I recently told a friend what I intended to do in the future.  He scoffed, I said don't laugh look what I've done already.  JUst because he doesn't believe and can't conceive will not be a drain on me!

Go for it brother!

The difference in 299 and 300 is great, all it requires is about 300 minutes of the next month and then you will probably have one, it is so easy the changes you will make in yourself!
PPS I'm going for it too!  On my way higher!  Join me!

I thought I was the only guy with 4 800's but no 300's.

Finally did it last year. I'd really like one more 300 sometime.

I think this invites the question, who has seen an extremely low average bowler throw a 300 or even less likely an 800?  If so, what was the score and the bowlers average.  I can't think of any that really stick out in my mind, but I'd be curious to hear other people's stories.  I did see a lefty who averaged 170 throw a 299.

Porkchop,

I'm carrying 220 on one league and right at 230 on another. I've got 4 300's in practice, but none in league. My sanctioned league honor scores are a 297, two 290's, and one 800 on the nose (264, 268, 268). I've had a couple of 770+ sets.

I think the reason that some people carry a high average without any 300's (like me and you and probably others too) is because when it comes to shooting a 300, you have to be perfect and strike every frame in a single game... but when it comes to shooting a big set like an 800 or 770+, you don't have to be perfect on every ball in every game - you can mess up 1, possibly 2 times (as long as the mess ups are spare-able), in each game and still shoot a big set, therefore helping you or me still carry a big average.

My 2 cents...

Ric Clint,

I think I understand your analogy.  I don't have a 300 or yet either.  But I must say that I have seen people shoot 300's with less than perfect shots.  They might bury 10 shots but they catch a break on one or two.  While others who don't get the 300 figure they will shoot for a 700-800 series instead.  They start pressing and come up short.  That is why I agree with those who say the 800 series is more prominent.  This season I have already thrown 289's on back to back weeks in two different houses.  Ten in a row each time leaving the same wobbling 8 pin twice.  I know I will get mine, but I would take the 800 first anyday.  I have a ton of 700's though.  I have also thrown 12 plus stikes many times from one game into another.

No, you are not the only one.  I have seen bowlers so good they are in a state or local hall who have never shot either.  Yep, Mr. 700s.  That said, it is unusual.

Well guys and gals, since I posted this topic, there have been many great replies and I thank you.  I had a chance for my first perfecto last night.  Had the first 10 and then messed up the 11th.  7 spare for a 287 and 750 series.  Oh well!  I'll have more chances.  Later!
