Really folks? Do they really need to shut down an entire 36 lane bowling center to conduct their qualifying rounds when only 23 people show up?

Yes, only 8 lanes were used for this segment of the tournament, and I was turned away for a few games of open play at the opposite end of the house. Was told the organization reserved the ENTIRE house for their use. (I guess they were expecting a much larger turnout, LOL!)

But still, given the circumstances, why the hell keep turning open bowlers away when the lanes aren't obviously going to be used for the tournament?

doesn't make any sense. If you don't get a good turnout, make it to where the center can give out lanes to those showing up to bowl. Either a 1 or 2 pair separation between the tournament and open bowling

I would guess that the house was compensated for reserving 36 lanes.

And knowing some tournaments. You don't get to practice on the pattern.

What time did you go? The have squads every 90 minutes. The later squads are the ones that attract more entries after the shot breaks down or they like to know the cut. They have to reserve the whole center because open bowlers will mess with the shot.

The biggest problem is that they are a handicapped tour. I bowled a couple of tournaments and established a tour average that was around 190. They handicap 80% of 220. The problem is when you bowl people that have a 140 average that get 80 pins of handicap so in reality all they have to shot is a 170 and they will beat you.

I believe I went in at around 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon just a couple weeks ago.

In the Chicagoland area, yes. When Ed was running ABT, they were filling houses and had many squads on standby, now? Now its just a joke and a shell of its former self.

You would get 24 pins and the 140 average would get 64 pins handicap. If he bowled 30 pins over, you'd have to shoot 30 over your average and you'd win.
