Hi,
I am new here, and I hope that someone can help me out.
I just started out bowling, and I got a Brunswick Fury drilled and fitted by an IBPSIA certified driller. It is drilled fingertip style with finger grips and thumb slug (I think that is the correct terminology).
I am trying to throw a hook, and I feel like I am getting close to figuring something out, but I am having a pretty major problem with my thumb. At first, when I got the ball fitted, I couldn't get the ball to come off my thumb. The driller made the hole bigger, but I still had some problems with it not coming off. I ended up trying the Brunswick thumbsaver and it immediately solved the problem with the thumb getting stuck, and it has come of clean everytime since.
However, after bowling probably 10 games or so with this ball over the course of the past couple of weeks, I've noticed I have quite a lot of pain in my thumb. The pain is on the palm side just above the bottom knuckle of the thumb. This is where the edge of the thumb hole meets my thumb during my swing. The pain comes from when I try to cup my wrist, and keep my wrist from collapsing when the ball reaches the bottom of my swing. When I do this, I feel the pressure on this part of my thumb, so a lot of weight from the ball is focused on this part of my thumb by the edge of the thumbhole.
I've tried a lot of different ways of trying to hold the ball, but I always end up with this same problem it seems. When trying to keep my wrist firm or cupped, the pressure or weight of the ball goes on this small point on my thumb.
Any ideas? I'm just getting started, and I feel like I am missing something simple that is causing me pain. If I could figure out this one problem, then my swing would be so much more fluid and easy I think.
