An Awesome Bridge
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:46:29 PM »
I bought a used ball from eBay.  I wanted something cheap, to try a surface/layout for one of my leagues...  I found a single drill ball that was close to my span.  The auction only had a picture of the label of the ball.

When it shows up in the mail, here is what I found:

Bridge Photo

When I measured the lateral pitches, middle was 0 and ring was 1/8"!  The holes met about 1/2" under the surface.  So much for not having to plug the fingers!

You don't HAVE to plug the fingers. I have had manyballs where the fingers met, but at the bottom, 1.5" down, and the bridge never cracked. At that time, it was intentional as I had the driller put the holes at 0" pitch. Not one of those many balls cracked at the bridge.

Of course, mine met 1.5" down, not .5" down.

Why not experiment and leave them as is. See what happens. You can always plug the fingers if they do crack.

The bridge was already cracked too...  No big deal, I had never seen such little differences in pitches before

If their shop is like one of our local shops I wouldnt be surprised. They do not draw bridge lines, just the original centerline and then eye ball it. I've seen some bridges that are almost 1/2" and that is for a bowler using inserts.

You never know what you will see sometimes.

You'll be better off anyway.  While you're at it put a new slug in and get everything exact.  --  JohnP
