Diamond Pad.
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:56:29 PM »
I just bought a diamond pad like this one from Ebay.

Its kind of like plastic with segments in it. Its the 800 grit one. I was told that they are fantastic on LM/L particles.
Anyone know if that is what they should be like to use on balls or should they be more like scotchbrite?

I have heated it up in boiling water and moulded it to the shape of the ball but I dont want to try it on a good ball until Im sure that its the right thing. I tried it on an old "house brick" and it seemed OK.

I just want pease of mind that its OK to go on with. Thanks.

I attempted "regular" sandpaper on a Big Bang (not thinking) and quickly found out that the sandpaper lost the battle... basically wore through the paper with out altering the surface in any way.  You definitely need something "harder" to get through the particles (or in the case of scotch-brite...around the particles).  I don't think there would be any problems using that type of pad...  just make sure you are using even pressure and time on all "sides" of the ball (front, back, top, bottom, side, side) to keep the ball round.  Haus machines use diamond coated pads...

The diamond pads or Trizact pads should ONLY, I repeat ONLY be used ont eh balls that are specified to have Diamond particles in them: New Standard, New Standard 2, Yeah Baby! and Big Kahuna. If you want or need to affect the diamonds used as particles, that is.

For the newer Lanemasters particles balls, such hard abrasives may not entirely be necessary: Terminator, World Class, Big Bang, and Black Pearl.

Basic abrasives, such as Abralon and wet/dry sandpaper will always affect the resin in which the particles are imbedded, but not necessarily the diamonds. Most of the newer particles are not diamonds, but a version of "super carbon" used on the Kong, Ap2, etc. Not sure how hard they are.
