An expensive day, kind of

Well  I just got home from work, at 12:25pm.  I get hoe and see a bowling ball laying in the front yard.  So I walk over to it and it is my D/T Cure (Retired but ready to come out anytime I needed it), The ball is cracked all of the way around.  I go inside and ask my wife, what happened.  She says go talk to your kids.  Apparenty my son and his friend thought it would be cool to bomb the front sidewalk with a 16lb bowling ball.  Unfortunately the bomb didnt make it.  Then I go into my room and find my "Classic" Urethane Black Genedade and a NIB Horizon, which I had sold covered in black marker, yes the sharpie kind......  that is permanent.  My girls were having "Art" day on my bowling equipment.  While my son knows better, my girls who are 5 and 7, should know better, I blamed my wife for not keeping an eye on them, well I quickly cooled down and apologized to her for being upset, to keep the "Piece" if you know what I mean... LOL anyways never trust a sharpie a 5 year old and a bowling ball alone together and remember when you were twelve the excitement of bombing the front yard with whatever you could drop out the window.......

Did they hit the target?

Was the art work interesting?

You might try to sell the "art work". Might pay for another bowling  ball!

I would think you could get the marker off. I did some googling on Sharpie removal and there where quite a few links. Denatured alcohol is supposed to work pretty good. Don't know if it would hurt the ball.

I've used gin to remove Sharpie marks.  Waste of gin, imo.

I think denatured alcohol is on the list of illegal-at-any-time cleaners.

I would say a little work with an abralon on a spinner will remove any sharpie residue...  The cracked ball.. sounds like it was past its prime anyways...  Guess it fell short of its intended target (into the yard).  I guess you should be happy they decided to drop it out the window and not blow it up inside!

try it I use it on bathtub , front bumper of cars
get bugs off ect, wheels  
its a sponge just wet it use it use over, then throw away.

Having worked for Sanford (makers of Sharpie) in the marker factory for 4 years, I've had quite a bit of experience removing Sharpie ink from various items (mostly my pants).

The Sharpie ink is a solvent based ink so you would need a solvent to rewet the staining poriton of the ink to be able to get it out.  Any solvent, including alcohols, that would take out the ink would also harm a reactive ball's surface.  On a used bowling ball, you may be able to heat the ball and get the ink to come out as the oil comes out.  You'd have to hope that the ink was absorbed by the oil and not the ball surface.  As for the NIB ball, you'd probably have to resurface the ball as the ink would have absorbed into the coverstock.

A hint for those of you with permanent marker of any kind on a whiteboard...you can take a black Expo marker (Expo 2/Expo Low Odor works too, but not as well) and color over the permanent marker.  Erase the new mark before the ink drys and the permanent marker should come off.  How well it works depends on the quality of your whiteboard too.
