An hour on the Open Team shot *Video*
« on: March 09, 2015, 07:24:16 PM »
This pattern is both brutal and extremely simple.  Just hit what you're aiming at, and be consistent with your speed, revs, and angle of rotation, that's all it takes.

We have Defy and higher friction lanes, so I'm sure it played drier than it will at the tournament, but given what I saw on the livestream, the limits felt appropriate.  Misses inside go high, literally zero miss room inside.  There is plenty of hook on the back, so getting soft and floating it a bit further outside with something with a bit of surface on it worked well.  My Rocket looked extremely good.  Tour Nano was too strong wherever I tried to play with it, but I imagine it will be just about right down there.  My Tour Solid was actually a bit too quick off the spot initially, but once I broke the lanes down some, it looked really good.  If you like being firm and rolling it, you'll love this pattern.  You can literally throw it directly into your breakpoint because it WILL hook.

However, it's speed sensitive and angle of rotation sensitive, though not incredibly rev sensitive.  Matter of fact, the nicer you are to it at the bottom, the smoother the transition was.  I have a lot of video, working on uploading it now.

Playing outside and being firm led to carrydown making your ball wiggle at the breakpoint.  Playing a small swing worked well, but it doesn't last long.  Chasing it inside, the best look is actually fairly deep and hooking most of the lane.  Obviously the problem with that is that once you get inside, the only direction you have to go is further left.  I beat up a pair by myself in an hour, and although Ice on lower friction lanes will hold up longer, I'm not expecting too much.

Basically, it's obvious what you need to do, and it's also obvious you CAN'T do that because you'll tear up the shot too quick.  Very fair shot, very fun shot, very challenging shot all the way around.  It's a shot that will make you cuss through smiles.  I'd love to have this for a league shot.

I will have to agree.  The shot is there, but you must hit it at the right speed and right amount of hand.  I had a shot at first from the outside and that quickly got really tight due to the carrydown.  We had the best look rolling it over around 15 to 8 or so with a pin down ball.  For me the best look I had came from a AMF Pure which surprised me being such a aggressive ball, but controlled the breakpoint.
With this practice session I will be drilling a pin down Moxie and pin down Respect, the other balls I am thinking is a RICO drilled All Day and a Darkness.
Was great to be able to practice on it and sort of see what the shot will look like, I know that we have Defy, but at sametime I think the shot there will have cleaner backends.

I would expect a Pure to be great on it, due to the move of the ball. Don't want anything jumpy off the spot when playing on something that tough.

true Impending, but figured with that pattern it might be too strong.  Glad it is not because i love the roll of that ball.

The video added is cut from my first recording, I have 7 more recordings from various lines at various speeds and rev rates, just need to upload and edit them.

People would get a better feel for things if you would show 7 consecutive shots with one ball rather than 7 edited strikes with different balls.

I understand that . . I work 75 hours a week and wanted to at least get something up.  Like I said, I've got several more recordings to cut from, I've just gotta get them uploaded and edited.  I plan on showing several misses also, just wanted to show a short montage for now because that's all I had time to get done.  Maybe I should have just not done anything?

Wouldn't 7 consecutive shots be easier to put together?

captain complaino just calls it like he sees it.  If you want to make a video that will help people do so.  But a highlight reel isn't helping anyone unless you are trying to sell balls.

If what's in the video is "the shot", then 95% of everyone who will go to El Paso has been eliminated(not that they weren't already). I don't buy that the pattern I see on those graphs is a 23-25 to 8 swing. At least not with success for three games.

Milo,  my best shot was laying ball on 10 throwing to 7, so a much tighter line.  The inside line was playable which makes sense, if you see how the masters shot was played there were a lot of people playing that inside line and that was on a similiar flat pattern.

I practiced on the team pattern this past weekend.  Our best shot was around 11 to 8 with some surface, approximately 3000.  You definitely need a soft hand release.  Any grab and you will know it.  As the pattern broke down, the guys with more revs could move in, but their reaction was not consistent.  The two college bowlers were using a Crux and IQ Tour.    The person with the IQ Tour tried playing the first arrow and had a terrible ball reaction.  The Crus looked good.  The two straighter players used a Venom Shock and Disturbed.  The lone lefthander had a very good reaction with an IQ Tour Nano.

10 to 7 makes perfect sense.
