And I thought I saw it all.......
« on: September 30, 2003, 12:16:13 PM »
After bowling Monday night, I was talking to a couple of my friends, when a individual was walking out with a 6 ball bag with his left hand, and a two ball tote on top of that, a 3 ball bag with his right hand, two 2 ball totes on his left shoulder, and a 2 ball tote on his right shoulder for a Grand Total of:

17 bowling balls!

He's averaging 195!

AND, has bowled in some regionals (don't know if he has a card or not).

I could NOT believe it.!

I take three balls with me to league. I've got a double shoulder bag and a
single tote. I think thats awkward enough when your trying to get around
people in the centre.

Well, i myself has always said, if you need to bring more than 4 bowling balls to a league nite, you need help! lol  I mean i myself normally only bring 2, because, i hate dragging along the 4 ball roller, and during the winter, its a paint to drag it through the snow.  I mean i do have 4 bowling balls in 2 lockers at one house i bowl in, but thats to just get them outa the house.

Now at one of the houses i bowled at, the GM who was a PBA member (Sean Quinn) who kept his stuff in the proshop did go through a couple balls during the nite, 1 for the first game, 2 for second game when carry down would start to show and thats about it. He had other stuff he would use if it was new, or had a new drilling and stuff, but that was only cuz he was on Columbia's staff.

But to bring over 4 balls to a league nite is funny.  Although i did remember a couple yrs back at the Michigan State Mens tournament, i did see a guy have a 4 ball roller, two ball bag on top of that, and two more bags on his shoulders, and i just laughed, lol.

I've been in two leagues over the past two years where I could never predict what I would be using or where I would be playing.

Some nights Dynamic Groove swung 20 to 3.  Other nights a super strong AMF Evolution Extra, pointed from 6 to 10 at the breakpoint(what breakpoint).

In those leagues I bring 5 and a spare.

Now I'm in one just the same.  Only a couple of games where I've said, ah that's the shot!

Now to add to this it is prodigy and the shot is changing rapidly on the left.

A couple of years ago I could walk in to most houses and say, it's one of these two but the shot is always 12 to 8.  Then I carry 3.  Where did those shots go!?

17 balls?! Was this fella some sort of gorilla? I would guess he was lugging around some 260-270 lbs. of dead weight.

if its a house i know i take 4, if its a house i don't know i take 4 in and leave a bag for emergencies in the care. If i bowl in a tournament other than a sweeper which is putting down a hard shot and its a long format, i'm bringing in 8 just because i don't wanna be caught without a ball when it changes.

I finally figured out how to score well on a wall. Heres what you do. Get lined up in practice and then just miss on purpose. Yes miss whatever line you found in practice, if playing 15, hit 14, or 13, or 16. Whatever you do, don't hit 15.

17 balls??? I guess his pro shop owner is laughing all the way to the bank!!!

I OWN that many, and they spend most of their time in the car - but I NEVER take in more than 8 - and that's for a regional with unknown conditions. LOL

Wow - 17 balls - I could throw a different ball every frame, and when I'd gone through them all, start over. Unless I punched out every 10th frame, I wouldn't even get through them all twice!!!

That's hilarious.

hmmm... Thats crazy. Although, one of my youth freind bowlers probably has 50 plus bowling balls sitting in his closet at home(thast excluding the ones he does use). He gets a new one every week.

If he can lug all that around at the same time, I'd suggest you not give him any crap about it. LOL.  He must be monstrous enough to toss you around like a rag doll!  By the way, it wasn't TBU was it?

I forgot to mention, he's about 5'7" about 150.

I seriously don't know what he's thinking lugging around all them balls for?  He plays only one shot, right up the ditch, maybe 2 board, and little lift.  It was funny because the two ball tote that was on the 6 ball bag fell, so he had to drop all his stuff, place his two ball tote from the 6 ball bag back on, and one by one start putting the other bags back on his shoulders! LOL

Do you reckon if I bought 15 more balls, that I could raise my average the 15 pins upto 195

We have an equipment junkie that helps out in the shop.  We started to notice we were running out of space, looked around and saw a bunch of bowling balls.  "Who's ball is this one" "Oh that's Shorty Johnson's" and this one? Shorty's and this one Shorty's!  Shorty Johnson had 23 balls in our shop!  We keep an area in the shop for our personal equipment and now we only need a quarter of the space now that Shorty's taken his stuff home.  1 four ball roller per person please!  It's hard to imagine knowing what 23 balls will do.  19 now take up space elsewhere.

i was practicing one day working on lines and stuff shooting like 110-140 just working on mechanics, lines, angles, releases. Two youth bowlers both brought in 2 6 ball rollers EACH. and got a lane next to me. Their spraying the lane on the wall and started talking smack to me about left hander cant hit the pocket, actually using many explicitives. So i told him pick any one of my balls in my bag, i would beat any of them with em, if i didn't i'd pay for both their bowling, both of them had bowled 7 games, if i won they pay for mine. They agreed and gave me my zebra.

So i shot 268 and beat them while they both went thru every piece of equipment they had, then refused to pay for my bowling calling me a house bowler or lefty, forgetting the fact i threw a plastic zebra up 13 while their playing 10 with icon 300s and cherry bombs. sad sad, but sometimes kids just don't know better and think a new ball will make them better. All it takes it superior talent to win, a ball is only a tool.

i would bring 6 balls to cover all conditions or a min of 4 balls if i know the shot etc......you can never have two many balls, especially buzzsaws....if i had the money i would fill up a u haul with them and have my roadie drive them to the lanes each nite!
