ANd why,
« on: March 11, 2005, 01:14:46 AM »
pray tell, are we not supposed to complain to the mods if they delete a post?  If an idiot falls in the passing lane are we not to hear him?  I'm sorry, me boyo, I shall complain, you shall delete and soon you will find yourself speaking to yourself and 3 sycophant mods.  Have a nice day.

Rags: If you want to start up a new "Deleted Nation", I'm in. The management of this board has become pathetic.

I don't know of a single forum that allows new threads that ask why something was deleted or someone was banned.  No moderator likes to be questioned.  Most posts, when locked/deleted, should be obvious why.

When it is not clear, a simple PM to the mods should be fine.  Just my opinion.

Webmaster,  *BZZT* wrong answer me boyo.  You're missing the point here.  At least some of the deleted posts DID to all appearances, follow the guidlines, yet were still deleted.  For this we demand an explanation.  Or, is there a double secret, not to be revealed to the hoi pilloi, set of rules that only the chosen few moderators know?

BTW, be consistent.  Some of my recent posting should have been deleted as they are critical of the moderators (not allowed per one of your recent dictums), yet they have not been.

If an action is justified, no one (moderator or otherwise) should get heartburn by being questioned. I manage a office, and if I took a "Little Caesar" attitude whenever asked why I took an action, I'd soon be without employees, or possibly find myself out the door. If you can't handle being questioned, being a moderator is then more about power than doing a job.

Many of the deletions are not obvious, and "simple PM's" are ignored -- that's the problem with the current environment.

I wish now that I had printed out the TOS back in 2001...I don't recall the issue of moderation being a factor four years ago.

Points taken.

PM'ing a user that doesn't respond is useless (although I've never tried to). For a while this site was a free for all... some of the worse abuses of the AUP (acceptable use policies) I've ever seen.  I'm not sure I like the "intermittent moderation" that is going on here.  It's not fair to moderate one week and then not another, really.

I'd buy this forum if they'd sell it for a reasonable price.  They can have the Reviews section, I just like the Forums.  But I'd make a lot of changes, and that would upset some of the regulars.  Muahahaa!

Bryan, it was stated that Hose did NOT delete his own posts.  It was an accusation that he did.

Basically this is a load of manure: we don't know who the mods are so we can't PM them.  If we PM the webmaster, 99% of the time it is ignored.  Obvious trolls go on uncontested while posts which do not appear to violate any rules are deleted.  One poster even claims (and I've no reason to doubt it) that his sig line was changed by a mod/webmaster.  The only response we have really had from the WM is a restatement of the rules, with no indication of how they might apply to posts in question, even after being repeatedly asked for said explanation.  The webmaster seems to fit into a Deist concept of the universe - he started it up and then left.

Will I leave?  Probably not until I'm thrown out, which might be anytime now.  Will I continue to be disgusted and appalled?  You bet your booties.

Then you, Mr. Webmaster, and all of your mods, should do you part and keep all the wickeds and trolls out, not matter HOW hard it may be. YOU guys are not doing YOUR jobs. So when that happens, then you can say that.

If you actually read the forums, then you'd know that literally everyone is sick of wicked's trash, yet nothing is done about it.

Also, can you really tell me what is with all the flippin secrecy with the mods and everything?  It just makes NO sense that you have secret mods that are like ghosts.

Fine, I'll buy that, but like i said in my edited post, why all the secrecy regarding the mods coming back to power, and all that?  It makes it sound like you don't trust anyone to be respectful of the mods.....

There is no way to permanently ban a user.  They can jump on a different computer with a different ISP and create a new username, etc.  It is impossible, which is the strength/weakness of the Internet.

You can contact their ISP and have them dropped from internet access, because their actions are a violation of most AUPs.  But they can always get another ISP.

The only action is to remove them the moment they are identified or act up.  Period.  If they are banned and their posts are deleted within minutes of being posted, they will stop coming.  It happens to all the popular boards.

So, is the site not for sale?
