Angular Balls?
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:15:58 AM »
I'm thinking I need to try and get more angle to the pocket versus the arcing reactions I get with the balls I'm using now.  Which balls are naturally more angular that I should consider?  I'm on synthetic lanes, a medium oil THS with so-so backends (carrydown), and I throw about 14mph at the pins with lower medium revs, and all of my stuff is drilled pin down just under the ring finger.  Pap is 4 1/2 x 1/4 up.

I would have to think that having carrydown would hurt creating a lot of angle in the backend, and using a more arc reaction ball would be best. With that said, I would try a Storm Shift, it should provide a clean yet strong move to the pocket.

Also pin above the fingers with the mass bias in the 70-90 degree area will give you length and backend.  Coverstock is 70% of ball reaction, so choose carefully

themachine300 is right: check for a polished pearl ball with a lower RG and a higher differential, and have the pin drilled high (above the fingers) and in a stronger position, CG/MB stacked below or slightly swung out. With lower revs you can need the low RG core's support in the back end, and delaying the breakpoint thorugh the high pin will help you get the ball thorugh the head area until it arrives in drier areas, where the core can deliver.
Anyway, carrydown is an issue, you might face poor control at the breakpoint with such a ball. But with a clean back end and some oil up front, this should work.

If you can still get one, try a Power Machine. I call my ball "Mr. Flippy".

I agree with Slashrr69.
If you have low medium revs
AND
you are facing medium oil
AND
you are facing carrydown
AND
you want some angularity
Then you want a polished particle pearl or a ball that acts like it.
Some good choices are
- Storm Shift
- World Class Particle Pearl
- Black Pearl Particle
- Black Pearl Reactive
- Nsane LevRG
- Cell Pearl

Other alternatives:
- Twisted Fury Pearl
- Black Widow Venom
- Gravity Shift
- Kinetic
- AMB Bronze Centaur
