Another Wrist Gadget Thread
« on: September 20, 2003, 11:20:40 PM »
As tisker pointed out in the other wrist gadget thread, many of the top PWBA players use wrist supports, including Kim Adler and Kendra Gaines.

I think maybe they use these things, not because their release is inconsistent, but because they don't have the strength to keep their wrists from breaking backward when using 15# equipment, which most people seem to agree still carries better than 14# stuff.

In his tip #14 on using the proper weight ball, Ron Clifton says that many people he's given his wrist strength test can't pass it, including men.  According to Ron, many bowlers are using equipment that's too heavy for them to throw with any kind of powerful release.

Do any of you use a wrist support to enable you to use a heavier ball than you could use effectively without it?

I've been seriously considering switching to a wrist brace since I've been experiencing wrist pains over the last month or so.
I can easily do the wrist test in Ron's tip so I'm not sure if it's a mechanics problem or strength. I'll be revising my release though before I make my decision

I use one of the Mongoose supports.  I started using it when I was bowling 5-6 leagues a week plus practice.  My wrist wouldn't bother me much when I bowled, but it sure did the day after the 5th or 6th league.  Since I've been using the support, no wrist pain at all.
