Poor Sport!
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:59:07 PM »
This past Thursday night in league the opposing team's anchor bowler showed poor sportsmanship. He has a 192 average and during the 3rd game my team was up over 200 pins starting the 7th frame. He proceeded to score 3 pins total in the 7, 8, 9 and 10th frames and ended with a 97. This gave him a 407 series and lowered his average to 188 thus gaining 4 pin handicap.

Our best bowler really got upset with his actions and is pressing the issue with the league wanting him suspended. Now realize that this bowler made no attempt to throw the ball down the lane. It always ended in the gutter before reaching the arrows.

The rest of this guy's team was real apologetic and does not condone his bowling this way. I know that his new handicap most likely will not affect us directly but it does indirectly. He will now have more handicap when bowling against other teams and thus could affect who wins or loses.

What do you think of his actions?

I think so badly of such a person that I can hardly think of words that won't be obscene.

I've seen such obvious dumping before. I doubt that the league executives will do anything at all. They're afraid and will say there's no proof or no evidence that he wasn't trying. Not sure what would constitute "evidence" other than a sworn affidavit by the bowler himself. Fat chance of that happening.

By the way, since it's April and the end of the season how does one game, even one so low, drop his average by 4 pins, unless he had like 10 games bowled???

These 3 games gave him 42 games bowled. It is a short 17 week league. That's why.

What a Tool. You should absolutely press it.  Deliberate sandbagging like that can get you thrown out of a league. We had a guy do that in a child/adult league no less and he took so much abuse that he quit after a few weeks.  Shot 398 in the first week and everyone knew what that he was 205 -210 career average bowler

Let me guess... He blamed it on the crappy shot - the same crappy shot that everyone else found a way to score on!

The league should give him an award for sportsmanship and effort. Give him a toilet scrubber for a trophy.  Make him remember the night when he made an azz of himself so maybe he won't try it again.

Unfortunately, poor sports have become way too common in society........not just bowling. Our association had it's annual masters invitational tournament this weekend. This is our associations biggest tournament of the year. Qualifying took place on Saturday with the top 8 advancing to match play on Sunday with the top 5 moving on to a traditional stepladder final. Although I re-injured my arm in game 5 on Saturday and had to withdraw I still wished everyone else good luck. Those of us who didn't advance to matchplay on Sunday were obviously disappointed but several of us showed up on Sunday to watch. Most of the rest did not show up due to being poor sports. I've bowled in this association for several decades now and I've never seen so many poor sports and inflated egos in my life. Sad but true.

He was anti-social all night. He did not even interact with his own team. His ball only reached half way down the lane when he would turn around and walk back to the ball return. He never saw a single ball hit the pins all night. I guess he was having some problems. Personal or other wise I don't know.

At least our team bowled to our potential and won all the points.

You took all the points.  Let it go.  You would have a tough time to prove he did it on purpose.  Of course, everyone knows he did it, but you can't prove it was deliberate.  He'll come back and say he sprained his wrist or something lame like that.  Pathetic, I know.  But intent to sandbag is near impossible to prove.
