Title: another ebayer
Post by: Iketown300 on July 11, 2004, 10:08:13 AM
Here's another funny ad from an ebayer about a lane 1 XL and could someone tell me what the extra hole under the bridge is for?

Might have been to remove excess top weight.

Couldn't you just remove the excess top weight by drilling a weighthole by the PAP or by drilling the finger holes deeper?

You must have better eyes than me.  I can't see the finger or thumb holes.  Looks like a balance hole to me.

What's the funny part?

And drilling a hole on the PAP would have little if any effect on Top Weight.  Drilling the finger holes deeper could be an option, but if you drill them too deep then they may meet at the bottom which could cause bridge cracking problems.

Unless your axis is .3 inches.

Well, I was going under the assumption that this ball wasn't for the king of all spinners.

SrKegler -- Scroll down to the bottom of that page and click on the right hand small picture to see the holes (the large picture will change).  I'd guess it was to remove finger weight, possibly to make the ball break earlier, but don't know why he didn't just drill deep finger holes.  The pitches can be adjusted so the holes don't come together at the bottom.  The way the ball is drilled, it would have to have extremely high undrilled top weight to be illegal after drilling.  Also, it looks like a layout for a leftie.  -- JohnP

It's a weight hole.

If you look at the bottom of the ball you can see
The outline of the thumb hole.

The adj appears to be a decrease in finger and top.  It's the old school way(usually above the bridge so you don't feel the hole in your grip) to just punch a hole vs working a little harder to drill deeper thru fingers, maybe the guy doesn't know how to drill the correct laterals so the fingers don't meet.  If set correctly, even my conventionals don't meet(2.5 inches deep).  Then again...could be for the "King of all spinners"...lol

Another possibility is that this guy/gal had success with one ball drilled like that so now he/she wants them all like that, bowlers are funny that way...
