How often do I adjust the surface?
« on: December 30, 2017, 09:10:05 AM »
So if I have a ball that I adjusted with a 3000 pad. Going forward how often do I hit it with the pad?

I adjusted it, bowled 3 games and liked what I saw. I then cleaned the ball with tac up as I normally do at the end of the night.

Do I use the 3k pad on it after cleaning it every week? or do I wait say 9-12 games and then use the pad again?

That is a subjective call. You hit it as often as you feel you need to hit it, to get the reaction that you are looking for.

There is a ball that I use in one house, that when the surface and oil conditions match up well.....I get the hockey stick look that I need in order to score well!

As soon as I see it standing up a bit and giving me that check mark look, I know I need to get the pad out, so I can get a little more length. You only know by watching your ball reaction in the right part of the lane.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Jesse touched up in some good points, generally 6-9 games is when you will see different effects of ball reaction, then you will know it’s time to refresh the cover.

Oil buildup, dirt, scuffes, etc.

Jesse hit it right on the head - subjective- 3000 by hand and then 3 games of league, its lane shined and that 3000 surface you had is gone. you may have to do it each league night. I had a buddy with this exact same scenario and after 6 - 8 weeks of always hitting it with 3000 each week. It lost its normal reaction. That thing bled oil in the extractor for 75 min. pulled it out every 10 min and rotated it. Tried 1000 + polish and it was very similar motion/reaction to the 3000 dull by hand each week, except this was far less ball maintenance. food for thought

Every session for me as I now use scotch brites only and simply do the last surface by hand (avoid spinner for last surface).  Then again have a decent sized arsenal now and tend to rotate the pieces I am using.  Probably wouldn't want to do to the same ball over and over after every session or will take the labels off over time.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.
