Another question on static weights................
« on: December 07, 2008, 01:01:10 AM »
I was told by the current owner of the lanes I bowl at that in 2009,the USBC will rmeove all restrictions on static weight limitations.H esaid this was told to everyone at the meeting that he attended last year at the annual BPAA convention.
I personally find it hard to believe. However, does anyone have any proof of this??Has anyone heard anything about this being true???
Thanks for any replies in advance............

First of all, it's Ric.

Secondly, I am not bitter, just an optimistic realist. Meaning I do not think this is a necessary evil.

Changing specs on bowling balls will do nothing to alleviate the real issues in bowling. As I stated, it is a bandaid. As also stated, it will effect what percentage of the existing membership-minimal.

It is great that the USBC is sharing data on these studies, but do you or have seen an increase in the current membership?

PS Have a great day.

Performance effect is what I am/was referring. Everyone wants to point a finger at the explosion is high scores, to bowling balls and only bowling balls and use this as the reason for the decline in membership. I do not believe that any new regulations on bowling ball specs will have an affect on the current membership. These regulations are geared more towards the upper echelon of bowlers. It is not even close to being the biggest issue effecting bowling and it's current decline. ASK ANY LEGITIMATE PRO SHOP OPERATOR. Ask any manufacturer, distributor, pro shop operator, sanctioned or non-sanctioned bowler. We all want to see the game increase in membership.

If you believe this is important in the big picture, that is your right. I do not, i.e. bandaid.

Do you think regulations by the USGA has an overall affect on the average golfer? No. They are more geared towards the PGA. Tiger Woods is what has affected golf the most the past 10+ years, not any regulations on CoR of drivers or iron grooves in regards to spin. Golf is finally seeing a decline in rounds and this is do to the economy, along with approx. 10% of all scores recorded are under a 100. UNDER 100. They are talking about increasing the size of the hole to increase speed and make it more fun. (Bad Idea by the way)

But please, continue to regulate equipment. That is where the problem in the game lies.
