What is your opinion if a house uses this ?
« on: December 17, 2010, 03:52:42 AM »
I dont care either way , but if a house uses this Wahsam device to increase pin carry, what is your opinion ?   For it or against it ?

This would be a 1 person discussion on the subject and you can tell the side he is taking :

I am against it.  I think it produces illegitimate averages even above and beyond what a THS does.

I can do the same thing without having to buy that device and make the pins fly around even more.  There is no rule about what you can have under your flat gutter to anchor them.  Generally it''s a huge open void under the flat gutter, and the flat is screwed into some support beams that are part of the construction of the lane bed area.

You can create a box out of wood, under the flat gutter and pour concrete into it right up to the flat gutter so it sits firm against the concrete.   Pin action rockets.

You can also use some very hard metals or wood under the flat gutters to also help eliminate the void under neat them.

Many places also use hard rock maple flat gutters instead of plastic ones, and then you can coat them with a material that will keep them in good shape for a long time.

Let's face the truth..... With out high scoring, leagues will not survive. Make the average bowler score even better and they will be back next year. Plain and simple. We have a local house that was about to die, then suddenly they had great pin carry and an easy house shot. Every one of their leagues filled up this year. More honor scores have come from that house than any other in our city.

While I agree with you in practice (higher scores WILL bring more bowlers), I DO NOT in principle.  This is sacraficing the integrity of the game for profits.  I personally, couldn't do this even as an owner.  Figure out the THS that is right for your individual leagues, that is enough.  The THS is enough help, I object to additional measures to improve carry.

And from a business stand point, it brings in revenue for the company.  Your leagues will be happy and as mentioned, will return again next year and *might* even join more than 1 league.

And not directing this to Good Times Good Times, but if a house does use this, then they have that option of not bowling there if they dont agree with it.

basically cheating. your buying your customers higher averages. we dont need more hacks averaging 220+. One of the reasons I dont bowl league alot anymore. lol. throw it good and get killed.

Its funny... we have a house down here (to rename unnamed) that not a lot of people bowl at because scores are to high. lol.

I'll quit and burn my shoes when everyone averages 260.

All wrong (too a point)....... PRIZE FUND is the reason you have bowlers or not. MONEY. plan and simple. As long as there is big Prize Fund money around you will have bowlers. Customer service is key as well.

We have a 50 team league (5 man teams) on Monday night in my house. The shot is easy but the carry is questionable. No one cares. The money is worth it. $180,000 (around) prize fund for the year. The people that do care are the people who have been bowling for 2 years that average 190 that think they should average 230. they think that if the carry was better they would average better. but so would everyone else.

Integrity = Respect

thats what your "real" bowlers care about most.

just asking a general question and not trying to start anything, but :

and what is the difference of that vs a wall up shot where bowlers bowl good week in and out ?

im not starting anything either believe me. its just a touchy subject.

the difference is the walled up shot still has to be bowled on. you still gotta hit the pocket good to strike. with these bounce things installed you create a ton of miss room because of easy carry. if the shot toughens up then the bounce things arent as big of a deal.

I don't want this at my centers, what Garbage, it's just a spring under the gutter, watch the installation video, it's pretty interesting, But this is sorry, they even say in the video, "Don't tell your bowlers" let them think their that good.. What the ??? If this system is being used for the PBA no wonder why all the birddogs lately.. This stinks....How may bowlers have been dup'd into thinking they are good? I want my true average, not some enhanced garbage...

My center definitely doesn't have them.
Damn pins would need a ladder to pop out of the gutters there.
