So, last Tuesday in my scratch league I'm on the same pair of lanes as the local pro and a 20 year old wanna be. They're matched against each other and the lanes are brutal. Both of them start off spare, double, then the kid thinks the pro made a comment along the lines of "uh oh, you doubled - it's all over now." I've no idea if such a comment was made or not, BUT, the rest of the night the kid is complaining to me about the pro "needling" him; all the while his game has gone in the toilet. What was really happening is that, since they were both up at the same time and coming off the approach one after the other, the kid would say something and the pro would reply. The kid never seemed to figure out that HE was the one initiating any exchange. Finally the pro just quit saying anything and got really mad. Mad in his case means he actually started thinking about bowling and shot 250 at junior, who by this time was reduced to about a 110 game. The kid never, ever seemed to understand that if he had just shut up there would have been silence. Very strange.
