My sunday league has been going thorough some transition over the past 3 weeks. Week 1 easy, with some out of bounds
Week 2 till now, hard. Hard in the sense that there is no shot, no backend, not anything, averages have dropped significantly over this period of time. This league is soly about the pots, but now skill doesn't win over luck. The people winning are the ones who have no clue as to what they are doing. Do I start complaing or suck it in.

Suck it up- ask yourself what have you done to figure out how to beat the other guys. Throwing the right ball? Right surface on that ball? Right hand position/speed/etc?

It's harder than it sounds. But try!

I agree...suck it up and figure out a way to conquer the shot. Unless conditions are such that say...a plastic balls rolling out at the arrows, which I have faced before, don't worry about complaining. As long as there's oil and you don't have to strain yourself to throw the ball, do your best to find a way to the pocket...and keep away from opens as much as you can. Don't go in and expect the shot to be identical as in a lost of cases a shot isn't always the same...depending on what time the lanes were oiled at, whether they were stripped or not, and if people practiced on your lanes. Sounds like my Tuesday night shot. So far after 3 weeks in a league that normally averages between 155-160 per game we are at 136 for an average game. I'm at 180 for an average in this league, I just continue to plug away, try my best to stay around the pocket and make as many spares as I can, string a double here and there.

Sometimes it's ok to be in the mid to high 500's and have that be the best series of the night. I find one of two shots works best when there is a lot of oil and no back end. Either try to throw the ball on an angle to the pocket with moderate speed and end over end roll- or move deeper inside and don't try to cover as many boards, playing a small swing to the pocket.

On a shot like this I try to practice for a game to get my headspace ready for what I'm facing, then go in with an A plan and a B plan, hope for the best...

Sometimes you just have to find the shot. Last night I was bowling at a center that I had not bowled at for nearly 20 years so I was clueless. I started out with my normal search and find. I bowled a game and discovered I had a tight shot but if not exactly right on I would washout. So when league started I decided to try that line. I quickly shot 138! sat back and went hmmm. They had taken the whole inside away from me. I moved way out side played straight up 3 jamming the ball right into the heads. This way I got around the oil and the ball had time to react. The next two games were 231, 215. Be patient and read. There is always something out there just might be what you like.

if it is consistant week to week (that is what league is for) then you have no reason to complain (enless the shot is suppose to change). If it is not you need to have some words with the laneman/manager/owner. who ever decides on the shot.
