If your equipment is all used, I would just keep it and wait.

The sad fact is, used bowling equipment has very little value. The value a year or more from now will probably still be low, but new equipment will be costly. The one gamble is balls can crack over time then they become worthless(instead of being almost worthless).
And who knows, you might have one of the rare gems that increase in value after a year.

Also what ever you do don’t start with a ball heavier than 10 to 12 pounds. Even if it’s just a house ball. My problems were not as serious as yours. Crush fracture in neck and 2 herniated discs. No surgery just 7 years of rest from the game.

You’ll have to rebuild the bowling muscles in your back. I started with an 11lb ball for several weeks and moved on from there. I do have a great pro shop friend so I moved up in 1lb increments. I did a lot of work at home. Just carrying the ball to the line took weeks.

Took everything really slowly, very robotic with very little tilt in my swing but now I’m almost back to my old swing but had to stop at 14lb balls. Scores are not as good but to me there’s nothing like the friendship of bowling buddies.

It takes time but there’s nothing like setting yourself a goal and working towards it. It seemed everyone I knew was pulling for me and willing to help me get there.
