USBS rule - lane breakdown / moving lanes
« on: April 07, 2010, 01:52:26 AM »
last a nite a team bowling on a pair of lanes next to us and the lanes broke down and wouldnt be fixed until the next day.  They waited about 35 minutes and bowled on the pair next to them once the other teams got finished up over there.  They transferred the scores to the lanes scoring system as they were already in game 3, thru 2nd frame.  Then I noticed that they were allowed to practice bowl for 5 minutes prior to starting.  then they finished up and completed.  This is a USBC sanctioned league.  Was that legal to allow them to warmup for 5 minutes prior to resuming game 3?  thanks in advance

its not that big of a deal
if it happened to you wouldnt you want to at least take a few throws to see how the lanes were when you had to move

the bowlers should not have to suffer because the lanes were physically broken

I am not saying it was a big deal or not, just asking if it was legal.

quote:
Rule 321 - Interrupted Game/Series
If equipment failure on a pair of lanes would delay the progress of the game/series, tournament officials can
authorize the completion of a game/series on another pair of certified lanes. The interrupted game/series
must be resumed from the point of interruption. A tournament official may authorize participants on the pair
to practice prior to resuming the game/series.

Up to the League/President/Board, as I'm reading it.

106c. Interrupted Game/Series
If equipment failure on a pair of lanes would delay the progress of a series, league officers can:
1. Authorize the game and series to be completed on another pair of certified lanes or
2. Authorize the game and/or series to be bowled on one lane when another pair of certified lanes is
not available. However, when the original pair or another pair of certified lanes becomes available,
the team(s) may resume play on a pair of lanes.
An interrupted game and series shall be resumed from the point of interruption.
Chapter 4: League Rules 51
When authorized, the requirements of Rules 106a and 106b do not apply.

That's from the "League" portion of the rules as well.

It is legal, but I believe that any honor scores bowled are voided in that scenario.

yes an 800 series was bowled by one young man on the team.  so that doesnt count as sanctioned?
