I currently bowl my strike ball without my thumb. I hesitate to get in this discussion because people are so openly hostile to no-thumbers. I bowled for 20 years with a "normal" grip. I topped out at a 212 average. I was good on my shot "short oil", but on anything without plenty of dry outside and clean backends I was done. I got bored and frustrated with my lack of improvement. I decided to try no-thumbing last Summer. I had a lot of fun with it and decided to try it for a while. I have stayed with it for a full season. I still average above 200 but now I have a new challenge. It's like learning to bowl all over again. I'm still better than 95% of the people who bowl and I still can't touch the top 2%. All that has changed is that I find bowling fun again. I shoot some high scores and some low scores. At least now I can enjoy my ball hooking the whole lane. It's more satisfying. I'm sorry if my enjoyment offends some of you.
