About sanding a ball
« on: February 23, 2004, 10:17:03 PM »
Hi, I always see people saying sand to XXX grit, polish with XXXX polish, but, then, why should people buy a pearlized ball and sand it to have more traction??? or why would anyone buy a heavy oil, heavy traction ball to polish it and give it more lenght??? I think ball makers give you a series of balls so you can get what you need (V2 Series, Inferno series, etc.. and others like track offer you equipment for every condition, and the again THERE IS NO HEAVY OIL BALL, THERE ARE PLAYERS WHO KNOW HOW TO PLAY ON OIL!!!)... Well, then, I own a V2 Pearl and a Complete Chaos!, the vortex gets its monthly polish but the chaos gets a 600-grit sandpaper monthly too... the fact is that after 10-15 games the Chaos losses hook and gains lenght again... so, I guess that its better to leave box finish...

So you can make your own tweaks without having to buy a new ball for every condition.  I have a ball for medium oil.  When the ball begins to hook too much, I can throw it in for a quick polish and its like buying a pearl for 1.75
Plus I dont have to worry about different drillings and feel.

Then when the house throws out a flood, I bring out my scotch brite bad and bingo, I can grip the lane again.  Same ball, still cheap and still works.

So, then, you'll turn your bowling ball to baseball size, if you resurface your ball that much, It will turn illegal very quickly... Resurfacing is for returning the finish on a ball, not to modify it... I am aware that we cannot buy new balls every 6months or so... But, think of the diameter of your ball if you sand it that much...
