any pro that you looked up to / modeled your game after?
« on: April 28, 2004, 06:20:35 PM »
Ever since I could remember, I always thought of Mike Aulby as a "hero" or a bowling "idol".  He was left handed, and during my early childhood (late 80's early 90's) he was one of the more dominant players, or so i remember.  So, I tried modeling my game after him.

Up until 2 years ago, I was a pure finesse bowler.  Then I reviewed/revamped my game, and I'm more of a power player now, If I say so myself I think I resemble Parker Bohn.

I always liked Bo Burton and Chris Schenkle better than the ESPN guys too...

Marshall Holman was my first hero, and I've modeled my game after Brenda Norman.

Growing up I always liked PDW and Amletto!  I actually got to bowl with Amletto at a Pro-Am in RI just before we switched from Brunswick to Track.  What made for a great discussion was the fact that I was throwing the new at the time Synergy ETS!  Pure FUN!!

I didn't really model my game after anyone but growing up with plastic / urethane I did develop a "heavy handed" style that could actually be called a combination of my early idols.

I have always liked PDW and Amleto as well. Others that I have grown to look up to and respect are WRW and Parker Bohn.

Although I'm RIGHT HANDED.. I always admired EARL ANTHONY .. Loved the way he was so relaxed and never seemed to MUSCEL the ball .. Just let it go .. Think he's the one that made the game interesting for me .. Trying to deliver the way he did!

I used to play just like Danny Wiseman but then started to realize that with more speed and revs, my average went up.  Then I started to play Steve Hoskins style.  Nowadays, I'd say I'm like Chris Barnes with ball speed.

Admire?  Anthony, WRW, PDW and Dad.

Modeled my game after?  Uhhh, Nicklaus?  Wrong sport.  No, I wouldn't insult any pro by saying my game is modeled after his or hers.

I second for Brian Voss, he's just so smooth. I'd like to have his game with just a tad more power.

Originally the Mark Roth "grip it and rip it" approach is what I emulated.  Once I figured out why he suffered badly from tendonitis, I decided to change.  I took elements from several players' games:

Slide: Danny Wiseman - one of the best slides in the business.
Armswing: Voss and Duke - the two best armswings in the business hands down.
Relaxed hand: PDW - you can just see it...incredible.
Footwork: David Ozio - smooth....

There are probably others to whom I should give credit, but in the end my game is mine.

If horse racing is the sport of kings, then surely bowling is a very good sport as well.
