any pro that you looked up to / modeled your game after?
« on: April 28, 2004, 06:20:35 PM »
Ever since I could remember, I always thought of Mike Aulby as a "hero" or a bowling "idol".  He was left handed, and during my early childhood (late 80's early 90's) he was one of the more dominant players, or so i remember.  So, I tried modeling my game after him.

Up until 2 years ago, I was a pure finesse bowler.  Then I reviewed/revamped my game, and I'm more of a power player now, If I say so myself I think I resemble Parker Bohn.

I always liked Bo Burton and Chris Schenkle better than the ESPN guys too...

Growing up, Amletto was my favorite bowler by far.  I was always a shorter guy so that might have had to do some with it too.  I was known as Mr. Twister by the local proshop owner because i put so much on the plastic balls.  If my game looks like any pro's out there it is definetly Monacelli.

Growing up in the '60's, Nelson Burton, Jr. had the form we all admired.  Dick Weber, too, although Weber's arm went all over the place after he released the ball, which seemed wrong.

Yeah, definitely Nelson Burton, Jr.

IT's funny.  I used to watch bowling on saturday mornings way before I even thought about picking up a ball and bowling.  I always found the shows intriguing(I've been watching golf for about 5 years and I've never even swung a club in my life).  I remember seeing George Branham III a few times and Walter Ray, Del Ballard, Petraglia and a few guys.  It wasn't until the Mid-Late 90s when I joined my first youth league, I remember one weeknight seeing Steve Hoskins tear through a telecast and proceeded to shoot 300 on Walter Ray with a Triton heat.  Thats when I was hooked.  I tried my best for years to crank it up and wheel it just like hoskins until I hurt by forearm really bad my freshman year in college.

Growing up in St.Louis, Bo Burton was the man. I watched him practice for hours when I worked at his dad's place as a kid. In his prime he was the best.

No one after Mark Roth huh?  Take seven steps, crank the crap outta the ball and be accurate within a board... can't be that tough... lol....

I always liked the way Brian Voss bowled.  If I was to model my game after any one person, it would either be him, Earl or ... drumroll... Nelson Burton Jr.

For me growin up, I idolized Mike Aulby.  I am a leftie of couse and when I was in elementary school we had to write to someone who was important in our lives.  I was the only person in my class to recieve something.  He wrote a very nice letter and I got some stuff like an autographed photo and some other things, like i said a very classy man.

When I was younger, Carter, Weber, and Anthony were the ones I liked to watch- then it was Roth, Holman,Aulby, and Petraglia.
Being right-handed, I've got to see quite a bit of Steve Jaros this past year and was very impressed with his effortless style.  I'm trying to implement some of his game into mine, and am not shy to say it's helped me quite a bit.
