Which ball for a reverse Block?
« on: April 26, 2004, 03:33:12 PM »
I know what a true reverse block is, and the difference
in a RB and a flatter pattern. My question is what ball
out of my current list would you start off with on a
RB??

15lb XXXL. pin to right of ring, cg in palm. 1000 grit polished.
15lb Pearl Carbide Bomb. pin under in grip center, cg swung w x hole on pap. 10 Micron triact. no polish.
15lb Viper Pearl. pin above grip in center, cg swung, 2000 grit with a hand scuff back to 800. No polish.
15lb Golden Nugget. pin under ring, cg swung small x hole on pap. Box condition (I polish it every 3-5 sets)
15lb Pro Purple. pin above grip in center, cg swung, Gray pad on haus, polished.
15lb Carbide Bomb. pin above grip in center, cg swung, 35 Micron trizact, Polished.

I am not afraid to change surface on anything.
I also have a Danger Zone 2, and a Zone X Hi differential
that I can drill any way I need to. the danger zone is actually drilled, but
the X zone needs plugged anyhow.
ANY SUGGESTIONS????

I am looking for a ball for team events for Pa states.
anyone that has been there feel free to comment.

If I were to bowl team event again at states on this shot, I would want a middle of the road, control pearl ball.  It would need to read the midlane enough to start to turn before it pushed into the OB, and enough shine to make sure it doesn't read too early.  Something stronger than a too hot.  I wouldn't want to think about particle anything (solid or pearl) because they read the middle of the lane too early.  Something comperable to a Power Charge, TPC Warrior, Hot Rod, or anything like that.

Another option would be a shined solid.  I saw 1 guy score fairly well swinging it to the oil line with a Black Cherry Bomb, but other than that If you run into fresh oil like I did, the outsides are really unplayable.  didn't see anyone having any luck.  2 of northland's higher avg right-handers shot 453 and 510 on 220+ book avgs.

Anywhere straight outside of 10, even with a strong ball had no chance.  I tried up 5 with a dull swamp monster drilled to roll, and took out 3.

Out of what you have there, the Viper with a bit of polish would probably give you a good read to start.  The Green bomb will read to early and hook at the arrows if you try to play inside.  Never threw any of the others, but the Nugget is probably a bit too strong.  The pro purple, if it can clear the heads might not be bad eith.  The biggest problem is you only get 2 shots per lane, and its tough to loosen up, much less find a line in that time.  (2 of my 4 went into the ditch).

I hope that is of some help and you fair better than I did.  (or maybe they will change the shot by then...lol)  Let me know if you have any other questions

haha.. this may relate to on of the other posts about playing 7th arrow!  I would imagine it is fairly unplayable on both sides on the lane outside of ten.  So it would be "conceivable" to get deep enough to take advantage of the oil present from left gutter out to about ten or so...  after which you are hitting the relatively dry middle part of the lane.  I would think this would be a relatively playable shot IF you are able to control your breakpoint.  From some of the score I have heard coming out of states (98's shot at the team house from 200+ average bowlers), I would think this is worth a shot.

Strapper, are you refering to Jaworski, talking about the 98 game? He had 270 something in singles and doubles. I just had a shot tonight
where if I kept my XXXL inside 10 I could swing it. Get it out
one board past 10 and 3 pin city. I do not find this to be a true reverse block.
I find this to be slightly flatter oil, with maybe a hint of a reverse block.
All I know is I am taking the trailer to states with me and an open mind.

On a standard reverse block i've found that something stacked pin up with a little grit does wonders if you have the ability to play in between 20 and 25... just try to not send it wide, otherwise you're looking at 2-10's all night. Just repeat shots and you'll be fine

Jaworski was down there the same time as me.  He shot 1250 ish in singles/doubles (I beat him in a few brackets).  And I know he started team with 148, so with that 98 it couldnt have been that good...lol

I am pretty sure I heard he threw
a 98. His wife told a guy in Huntington this..
A reliable guy. I don't know which event.

Any other tips about the shot that is not there for
team event?

Some guys I golf with just did the PA state tournament last weekend. No one got their average. Dry inside and wet outside. I get my chance at it this weekend. Very unusual for a reverse block at the states. Usually, the lanes or pattern are crappy, but never reverse blocked.

Best thing you can do is just take your time and not get frustrated with the shot. Make ever shot count, especially during practice. During practice find the ball that matches up with the dry middle as best as possible. Also make your spares because strikes can be hard to come by.
