Strike Ball and Spare ball Grips
« on: March 30, 2005, 08:19:21 AM »
For all of you that use finger inserts do you also use them on your plastic spare ball? I had a lot of my stuff messed with yesterday, TOLD my driller to oval it, it helped but still needs more and he totally did not smooth out my plastic ball it was dragging to my skin very badly. So I started using my friends plastic ball(his span's a little wider but we're almost the same) However he does not use thumb slugs or finger inserts. I left 8 ten pins, picked every single one of them with that ball and none of them were questionable, soon as I let go I knew I had it. Also picked a 7 pin,4 pin, and a 4-7 and I have not even been throwing at my left side spares straight for over 2 months. I have never had the ball come off my hand so cleanly like that before. I did lose quite a few revs but that might be due to a longer span. What do you guys think? Should I take my spare ball to my driller and tell him to take the inserts out? Should I possibly consider doing it to all of my equipment? Have any of you experienced something like this? Just curious.

What you said makes sense.  With no grips, you get out cleaner (generally, there will be some who will say the opposite on here).  That's the main reason I switched all my stuff.  From what it sounds like, you should get your spare ball gripless, but I'd say you should keep the grips in your strike balls, since you apparently lose a lot of revs, and that wouldn't help you at all.  I gained revs as some others have, but for most, the rev rate goes down, sometimes significantly in your case.  But if getting out more cleanly is really helping, i'd say do that to your spare ball.  Not the others unless you want to deal with lower revs.
