Anybody else have Tendinitis???
« on: May 05, 2006, 07:58:51 PM »
I have been going to therapy for 3 weeks now, but its not helping....the dr. tells me i have Tendinitis right at the base of my thumb....i am not in alot of pain until i bowl about 4-5 games. Its just knowing that if the tendon moves from side to side while i am bowling it causes me to come out of the ball different at times.

Anyways, i am going to a hand specialist next week and i may need surgrey......it really suks, because i have a new Doom , and a Road Hawg that i am just getting used too...........its really hard to keep my butt off those dam lanes!!

I have tendonitis in my left and right knee (im only 16 years old). Not sure how i got it, but it only bothers me in my left knee due to it being the leg which supports my body at the line. I also had problems with that knee with my knee cap shifting and then snapping back into place when the knee was bent. All i can tell you is that tendonitis is a realy pain in the but. I had surgery 2 years ago to fix some cartillage under the knee cap and with the help of a knee brace, and 1 month of not bowling....im ok.

I recomend that you stop bolwing for a while.

Well as Kid/R said stay off the lanes forawhile go see the hand specialist.  I also have tendentitis in the left shoulder(left handed)  I have been lucky in the fact that bowling helps keeps it from flaring up and under instruction of the doc to bowl.  I have gone through 2 surgeries on that shoulder in just over 3 years.

How can you tell if you have tendonitis in your hands? When I first started bowling the proshop guy drilled my span 1" to much and now at the base of my thumb theres like a little muscle or it might be a nerve that can be moved aroung a little (like its loose or something) but its not like that on my left hand. when I put to much tape in my ball my thumb doesnt go all the way in and the balls weight sits on that nerve and it causes a shock wave throughtout my hand, its weird. So do you think I have tendonitis?

No - either your span is too long (still), you have too much forward pitch in your thumb hole, or you don't have enough bevel in your thumb hole.  What's happening is your pinching the nerve at the base of your thumb and your thumb has developed a "pad" there in an attempt to protect itself.

Regardless, this is something you should get fixed as soon as possible because if left alone, you can cause permanent nerve damage in your thumb.

Take it from me. I already have the permanent nerve damage from what you have described.  You don't want it.

hey jturley46, i have to disagree with janderson, because from u r describing is excatly how my thumb feels when i bowl 4-5games....that muscle that you say is loose at the base of your thumb is your tendon.....and my tendon feels loose and moves back and forth just like you said.....so if i am you i would go to the dr and get it checked out asap.
