Anybody going back to there old stuff?
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:04:13 PM »
Ive got a few of the latest...

Lane#1 Supernova XP
Hammer Black Widow Pearl
Ebonite Complete NV
RotoGrip Cell

Ive been practicing with all of my old stuff, bowling summer league with old stuff, what a pleasant surprise. I have a Ebonite Pantera that hits as hard as any ball that I own. Ive had it for years...I thought it died on me, I soaked it and baked it. Put it back at 800 grit and wow!. Same as my old Depthcharge, and Trauma.

Im considering bowling with my old stuff this up and coming fall season (exclusively).

Has anyone ever tried this? if so,  what was the outcome?

Earl

I would say out of the 12 ball arsenal I have set up for myself I am throwing equipment between 2002 and 2006.

I have enough hand and with the right layout I am all set on anything I face while bowling.

I have a few favorites that will find their way back into my bag and I never regret it. I no longer have anything older than the Absolute Inferno, but that's one that always works well for me.

I am using some "older" rocks this comming fall/winter league. I picked up a Morich Ravage, Ebonite Total NV and a storm Triple xxxtreme. I am also going to be using an AMF Hiest and having it laid out Rico style along with the xxxtreme. I will sede how it goes!

Last season I threw a Columbia Flipside Panic (released in 2004) from January to April (end of the season).  I averaged 227, shot 7-700 series, had only 5 series below 650, earned an 11-in-a-row award and a 300 game.

No complaints here.

I'm going super old school this fall.  The first reactive ball I ever purchased was a Columbia 300 Primal Rage.  I found some on eBay for really cheap NIB, so I picked one up...and can't wait to use it

Newer, stronger equipment is my friend.  I see higher volumes of oil in general even on house shots, bowl in a PBA Experience league where we don't see much friction, and don't have much hand to go with my higher ball speed.  The weakest thing in my bag is a Rico-drilled Storm Eraser Banshee that rarely ever sees use.  A pin up 4.5x3 Spit Fire is probably the "weakest" ball I normally will use, but it turns the corner bigtime.  (It gave me a skid/snap look like nothing else the other day in the 3rd block of the Kentucky Open to give me a nice +209 run for 5 games to rally back and cash.  Not bad for a house where everyone except me was complaining about lack of carry).  I use my Cell even on medium conditions when there's a little carrydown.

Most of my equipment is new, I had an overhaul recently, but I still use an X-Factor Deuce which is a couple of years old. Im trying to find a 16lb Burgundy Hammer, but they all seem to be 15, so yes I have no problem with old equipment.

I have better luck in league with older equipment, I am not just talking a couple of years old, more like a decade stuff like Cuda/c and Pirannha/C, and a Blue Surge, I love the how the older stuff gets down the lane never mind all this new fangled crap. (even though I own alot of it) My best league sets for the last 2 years have been shot with the three balls mentioned above. IMO older stuff allows you to use a pin down pattern with the ball somewhat dull but still have good length but with the pin down and the ball a little dull get more control. The new stuff is to shot specific to drill specific to much to think about.

I Bowl for one reason and one reason only...so my 2 year old son can have a hero!!

My question is, is it still white?

Every so often one will show up in the shop for a resurface, etc. and they are usually a pretty ugly! Some sort of off-yellow/dirt gray color until we bring 'em back to life. They always seem to have some sentimental value so people can't quite get rid of them...

My Depth Charge is my fall back ball for a lot of the PBA patterns. Doubt I will ever get rid of that ball.

Scolai`....That Flipside Panic seems to be pretty nasty. I have a Flipside Wicked, the first one....It has good carry also. I bowl with it during the summer as well. Havent posted numbers like you have with your Panic though.

Nice shooting

I believe Panic is the pearl version of the Hyde but with a slightly lower flare higher rg core.  (Same Hyde core shape)

On slightly hookier lanes it is a nice piece...I've had a nice set or two with mine in league also.

Medium high rg like 2.5 and .25 flare.

Hmmmm...why wasn't I using that this year?

My new stuff is practically old stuff.

Blue Vibe, Chery Vibe, Black Widow Pearl. Blue Dot. Everything else is still older by months of years.
