Anybody good at changing..????
« on: October 17, 2005, 10:51:46 PM »
axis tilt?

When I get under the ball more, whether or not I rotate my hand at release, my axis tilt doesn't seem to change.  I tried four or five different hand positions the other day.  After a couple of balls with each hp I checked out my track.  Generally, it didn't change much.  It may have moved down a touch, but as for my track getting farther from the finger, it just wasn't happening.

I seem to be able to control my axis ROTATION, but not tilt.  I used the same ball, outside at 5 to inside at 20 to 10.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Andrew

Pretty much the same with me. I can change my side roll/axis rotation very well, but my axis tilt does not change. My track always stays high, whatever I do with the ball, either with complete side roll, forward roll...

I can change with axit tilt but when doing so I have to be careful.  Changing tilt does a lot of drastic things to ball.  Not knowing what you are going to get as a result can leave one with to much thinking on the approach....especially with todays wonderful equipment.  I can go from full roller which I learned years ago to 5/8's roller....I'd hazard a guess I can go from 4R PAP to 5.75R PAP.  I can invert my track so that my PAP is under mid grip line normally I am 4 7/8R and 1/2 up.

Changing tilt for me is a change in timing of how my hand comes out of ball.  That's why it's so hard to do.  Most all come out of the ball with the same timing thumb then fingers you have to change that to change your tilt.

I can easily change my axis rotation, but not my tilt. When I made changes in my pitches and changed my release to get away from hitting up so much we thought it had changed my PAP, but when we checked it didn't appear to move.

Bob -- Axis tilt and PAP position are not necessarily a direct correlation.  Axis tilt is related to track diameter.  Think of the NAP (negative axis point), which is directly on the other side of the ball from the PAP.  You can draw any number of tracks with the same NAP but different diameters (concentric circles around the NAP).  So having the same PAP does not necessarily mean having the same tilt.  Try your experiment again and measure the track diameter.  --  JohnP

I agree with John.  Track diameter is more in direct correlation with tilt.  Drillings/layouts can interfere with the ability to see direct comparisons.

Best ball that I can compare results with is an old Bruns Black Phantom that is laid out for a true roll the inner core ring lined up with my normal roll.  With this ball it is easier for me to compare and measure track diameters.

I have the same problem. I seem to lower my track by an inch if I spread my index finger way out. And the only other time I ever see a difference is if my timing is different.

Do the above replies indicate that you are unable to toss a spinner where the track is much much lower than your usual track?

Yes, I CAN(at least I think I can) throw a spinner, just not effectively.  My track diameter does change but not much.
