Wow...
« on: November 07, 2008, 02:25:13 PM »
Move to Houston a couple months ago and had been super busy with the new job.  I just made it out (finally) this evening to the local lanes to throw a couple games (had been since June last time I touched a ball).  Local AMF house...  old and run down, but relatively clean.  Afte tax, it ran $6.05 per game!  Top that off with an $18 bucket of beer (4) adn I pretty much had my fill for the evening.  I understand the place has to make money in order to keep the doors open, but wow...  thought it was a little overpriced, even for the notoriously high-priced AMF houses.  The best part was that the old wood lanes had absolutely no head oil from 10 to 10.

Hope everyone is doing well...

Is that the newer AMF house?  And was it one of their Club 300 houses. IN the metro plex? They are always overpriced and based off weekend open play.

AMF is ridiculous no matter where you go.

I always wonder how much AMF has to do with it.  Do they just not pay attention to what other houses are doing, or are some local managers crazy?  In Mobile, we had two AMF houses.  Both were clean and in good shape.  Games were about $2.50 for open bowling and $1.50 for league bowlers.  Here in the Greensboro area, most houses are $2.50-3 per game and $1.50 or so for league bowlers.  There is an AMF house in town (well, they have AMF on the sign, but don't know how active they are in the running of the place).  It's an older wood house.  The lanes look kind of beat up, but supposedly were just resurfaced a few months ago maybe they're in better shape now.  I didn't look at food/drink prices, but open bowling was $5 per game.  Nothing like being twice the price of everyone else...
