Staying behind the ball. How do you do it?
« on: October 15, 2004, 09:20:19 PM »
Hello all, I have been bowling for about 8 years now.  At around 18 or 19 I got the "I wanna be Robert Smith sickness" so I worked and I worked and I worked on hooking the hell out of the ball.  Now I am a little wiser about the game mentaly and understand that hooking the hell out of the ball is nothing but hard work and bad scores.  I come around the ball every shot, no matter what unless I throw a strait ball.  I tell myself stay beind the ball and I still come around it.  I don't know if it is muscle memory or what.  So is there an exercise, a way to hold the ball, or even a damn pill lol, that will help me stay beind the ball?

Thanks, Slipknot

'Bout time I set this record straight
All the needlenose punchin' is makin' me irate
Sick o' my b*tchin' fallin' on deaf ears
Where YOU gonna be in the next five years?
The crew and all the fools, and all the politix
Get your lips ready, gonna gag, gonna make you sick
You got dick when they passed out the good stuff
Bam
Are you sick of me? Good enough - had enough

I bet ya open your shoulders..

When rookies open their shoulders, usually they will come around the ball, than rather be behind it.

Sometimes ill do the same. When it's dry, and you can swing the whole lane, if I dont open my shoulders right ill come around the ball rather than being behind it.

I've noticed over the years that I get better and more consistent ball reaction by making sure to keep the inside of my right elbow close to,but not hitting my side.
When I get bad reactions I usually get told by a teammate that knows my game that I'm swinging my arm away from my body during my backswing.
 I hope this helps you.
