Bowling Center is closing, League has to move.
« on: January 21, 2016, 03:15:48 PM »
The Bowling center our league bowls at all of the sudden announced it will be closing.  It's owned by JOMA out of Witchita, KS and we are located in St. Joe, Missouri.  The have sold the building and we have a week to figure out what to do with our league.  There are two other centers in town, one has already announced they have made room for us.  The other center in town is now throwing a fit wanting all the leagues to choose where they want to go.

I have a couple questions concerning our situation.  Is there a USBC rule regarding this issue lol?  If we move to a new center do they have to honor the price we've been paying each week?  If too many teams decide they don't want to bowl at a different center and want to quit what happens to the prize fund?  I am confused on the whole deal and it sucks they've been planning on closing for a while and told no one, all the employees were in the dark too.  The head mechanic has been there for 30 years and been the only job he's held.

Review your leagues contract and review USBC's rules and if there are any questions, contact USBC directly.  Now, with the league fees, that is totally up to the new center.  If they want your league, they should be able to work out a deal for lineage.

I don't remember ever reading a rule that covers moving houses.  I suggest you close the league out, then start over in a new house.  Appoint a three person committee to come up with three options for a prize fund based on the final standings, then have a captains meeting to select one.  This won't satisfy everyone, but it will put a distinct end to the situation.  Then negotiate with the new house on a short season league to end in late April.  --  JohnP

I'd get as much information as possible then hold a vote. Ultimately the league either disbands or you move.

1) Find out from the new house the time and price I can't see them not honoring the price at the other centre if they want your league.
2)Once the above is known hold a vote to see if everyone agrees with just moving houses. I prefer giving as few options as possible initially.
3) If everyone is on board move to the new house. If people want to leave have a vote on how to deal with the prize fund. Hopefully enough teams will want to move to hold a short season.
