Anyone Bowl the Washington State Tourney in Kelso, WA
« on: April 27, 2008, 03:38:20 PM »
I'm heading down there this weekend and was wondering if anyone has bowled it. I'm looking to find out how the shot is and what kind of arsenal I need to bring. My team event is the second squad and so is my D/S.

I bowled the second weekend of the tourney. Team was tight for me for the first 2, 192,193,257. It really was my own fault, i couldn't loosen up quick enough. Very playable shot for the players that play the track, i was about 17-7 in team and i didn;'t have to move much, i ended about 20-10.
Trios, same shot less traffic.

Singles/Doubles more backend. Much easier for singles, went 217,233,300 started 20-10 and i was the only one in there, i really could have shot 800 if i would have executed better in my first 2 games. I was tossing an older Big Block Diesel sanded to 2000 it is drilled label leverage, just an even roll for me, no skid flip, from what i saw the guys trying to use skid flip were fighting over under all day.
Doubles were really dry for me, i was in rolling 25-10 with my same big block diesel, shot 202,223,225 for a 650 in doubles. I lost money in brackets and i felt i bowled well. Singles i got in 8 brackets and only cashed in 1.
Doubles i was in 8 an donly cashed in 2. Not a good bracket year for me.

I shot 2042 AE scratch but should have been up there with Bogner. I let my chance go. Good luck and if you want to know more ask me...

I live in that county and bowl at both houses.  Team and trios is at a synthetic house with pretty snappy backends.  When I bowled team there were only two teams on one pair and they didn't burn the pattern on an extra pair so the first lane they oiled was soo dry, I was 10 boards left of where I was on the right lane and I was still having trouble keeping it to the right of the headpin.  If properly oiled it is a pretty nice THS shot.  Triangle is a wood house with guardian heads and typically is more of a blended pattern, I can play alot farther outside at that house than I can at the Hilander.  You can use just about any ball at either house and be fine.  For me, I use weaker equipment (Neptune,Spitfire) at Triangle to help me get thru the heads.  I can use stronger equipment (Cell,Rival) at the sythetic house where the track area doesn't burn up as fast.

Thanks for the  information BigBaller and skbowl800. This was very helpful. I too use a Spitfire and learned on woodlanes. I am not a highrev player so I probably wont need to play as deep as you did BB, but at least I have a starting point.

I will keep you posted on how we do. Sk800 and you to BB if you are  in the area this Friday 5/2. We are planning to bowl the trio's at 6:00, stop by I would like to meet you. I will be wearing a black ABT shirt. Last name is Bratcher

Again Thanks

I have to work swing and can't make it in time but good luck.  Hey, if you are still in town that evening head over to Triangle for the King of the Hill tournament friday night at 9:30.  They usually put out some kind of USBC or Sport type shot, it is a 2 game qualifier then cut the field in half bowl 1 game cut in half again and the finalists bowl 1 game for the money.  Usually very fun cheap($25) tournament.  If I can get off work a little early I will be headed over there.

Good luck...

So here is an interesting question??? Do you think it is possible for a 172 average bowler to shoot 230 for 9 games in a tourney setting??? Well it is possible. I think next year i am going to bowl in the crappy house in our association so i can get my average down... Sounds good but i couldnt do it...

I hope you were not referring to yourself.  I think it is possible to shoot a high series of three games or even 6. But to average almost 60 pins over your average for 9 games.  It would be interesting to see how many games were recorded to establish the 172 average.  Just the minimum 21games or a full season. I even saw some high average players 210-220avgs, shoot 250-260 games them come back and barely shoot 200.

No not refering to me... If you look i am the 215-220 house hack that can tear it up on a house shot but if you put it on something the resembles the shark pattern i am in trouble. If i have a little recovery i can manage.

Just a little research showed the guy leading here in WA has a 172 average in goldendale, a little hole in the wall. 2 years ago he was @ 210 in boise. Now come on...

So how did ya do???

Hey guys, we are heading to Tacoma this weekend so the wife can bowl state tournament.  Do either of you have info on pacific lanes or Bowlero?

Approahes, lane conditions(I assume they'll put the ladies on the house china), what is the lane surface(bwick, amf, etc)...

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew
