Anyone Else Getting Tired of This
« on: January 06, 2011, 02:15:08 AM »
Ebonite just announced the Mission Domination and the Hammer Infection.  I mean, the Taboo just came out a month ago.  Does anybody really believe we need all these bowling balls ?  Ebonite is doing a fine job releasing new equipment (it seems) almost every 2 months.  I know some of you, can't wait for the new releases to show up, but come on, do you really think the newest ball will make you a better bowler ?

I for one, would like to see less releases and keep the older balls (released 2 months ago) current much longer.  No wonder, most of the pro shops in my area carry extremely low inventory.

Its a good business model, because unfortunately a lot of people will buy them all. It is ridiculous but if it makes money for ebonite they will continue to do it. This along with a couple other factors is what drove me away from ebonite. I realized they were not in the market of building a line up or improving tech. They just throw balls at the market and see what sticks. Its unfortunate, because they have some good ideas out there but they don't let them catch on before the next big ball.

Well, with the way their NEW covers lose reaction, it's no wonder they continue to release new balls..

Not really, if I don't feel the need to buy a new ball then I don't buy.  Why would you get so worried about it?

On the flip side they are in the business of selling bowling balls.

I was just talking about this with my driller the other day. I am guilty of being one of those guys that have to have the latest and greatest but yes they are coming out with balls faster than I can make money lately.

Well, the problem is for the pro shops, especially since Ebonite wants to clamp down on internet sales.  The pro shops will have to thread a thin line on inventory.  Too few in stock and people get mad that they have to wait.  Too many and the shop might get left with old inventory that people don't want when the next greatest things gets released a month later.

Sir, so true,  and Ebonite has changed some of their early buy discounts... Now a shop must order a CERTAIN number to get the discount... All on ONE invoice...

This drives me crazy, Absolutely crazy.
I mean is any pro shop in the continental United States more than 2 days away from getting any new ball from their distributor that carries them?
Answer: NO!!!
If any human being, be they bowler or not, cannot wait 2 days, they need to see a psychiatrist QUICKLY!

Does it bother me???   not really, I mean does a new ball actually work better than a ball that is 2 years old???

I think it's laugh-able, because the only people who actually benefit from new releases are the Staffers / Pro's who get them for free.....

It doesn't bother me, but it's obvious they aren't doing much R&D to create anything significantly different or better in doing this.  Just throwing different names and colors together with some nice marketing to convince the "ball of the month" club into buying more often.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see them being able to research, develop, test, and release any significant changes to the tune of one every 2 months.

But, if it makes them money who am I to say they're doing anything wrong?  If they don't make any money, they'll quit doing it.

I just watched the video for the Infection on Hammer's site. They compare it to the Plague. I came away wondering why anyone would ever need both of those balls. Yeah, they're different, but nowhere near different enough to warrant having both in the bag.

I used to enjoy picking up a new ball every so often for kicks or just to see how different it might be from whatever else I have. Now I realize that there just isn't that much difference. There are umpteen new balls coming out again now? Whooppee. In a lot of cases, the new crop is the same as the old crop. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

nope not tired of it at all.... why would I be.... what does it matter if a company releases 50 balls a year, cause I dont have to buy a new one everytime one comes out

if I plan on buying a new ball that year I always wait till feb before I do cause that seems to be the time when the last of the balls are released till july.    but I really dont see the need to buy a new ball every year like some

I might buy 1 more ball for the next couple of years cause I need to fill a hole but after that im set and it doesnt matter what comes out  cause if what I have works for me then why would i need the latest n greatest blah blah

in the bag
BW Venom
BW Nasty
Road Hawg
Plague

Charlest,  I guess that would depend on what part of the country you are in... In my area, people who go to a pro shop expect to get the ball now..."why go to a pro shop if you still have to order"   "You could simply stay home and order online"...So in my area, this is indeed a big deal...

Since Christmas we have not been replacing some of the slower moving older models...So right now we are in good shape and have plenty of shelf space for all the new Jan/Feb releases...

Especially with the high cost of gas...People don't want to have to make extra trips to the pro shop... They want to get a ball on the first trip...And if they can't find a pro shop that stocks, they order online...
