Sliding HELP!
« on: October 31, 2006, 11:23:48 PM »
Word on the street is that my slide is nonexistent. Randy Stoughton at Kegel wondered how I didn't pull a groin muscle with the way I lunge. The reason I want to change this is because I'm generating revs from all forward swing and it causes an inconsistent release point and a lot of grabbing on the bottom of the swing. I started working with my pro shop guru yesterday on correcting this and damn near busted my knee cap.

Any looking for any tips and suggestions for transitioning from a heel-toe planting to a smooth slide without "killing myself". Thanks!

I think what you should do is practice sliding withot a ball just to get the feel of it. I mean do it alot till you feel alomost natural doing it then add the ball. Also make sure you stay on your off your heels to start your slide. I am thinkin your coach can give you way better thingsto try then i can.

A video might help to see where any balance issues stem from.

If a coach and someone from Kegel weren't able to help, it's hard to imagine how a bunch of people here who've never seen you have a chance.

Most things can be attributed to poor timing.  Maybe this could help?

Strider,

Thanks for Ron's link. I missed that one earlier when I was looking. My Kegel visit was interesting because Randy looked more at my upper body versus my lower. While he was amazed at the lunge, it wasn't something he focused on compared to my inconsistent head position and the way my backswing was way past (laterally) my head. The arm is getting better, but now incorporating a slide is nightmarish.
