Anyone else starting off the season slow..really slow?
« on: September 28, 2012, 04:24:28 PM »
I don't know what the problem is, but it seems from the end of last season, to now I've lost everything. I'm on a new team this year, bowling with guys I know but have never bowled with. I don't know whether I'm just pressing too hard, trying to do well or what. It's brutal, only good thing that with me bowling at my worst, we're still taking 20 or more points. It's getting aggravating though. So back to my original question, anyone else starting out slow or have started out slow? What'd you do to fix it? Practice or just let it sort it self out?

I havn't started off slow but I've been all over the map.  In one week I threw the lowest 3 games series I've bowled as an adult and then 2 days later won a scratch tournament.  Go figure...

Maybe you're pressing and trying too hard to impress the new team?

Take it shot by shot.  Think through the things that are causing you to score lower than usual and work it out.  Good luck!!!

I've had a tough start too.  Week 1, I was in the 190's all night, which was not a bad start to the season.  Week 2, I'm throwing games up between 200-240 the entire night while others had problems with the conditions.  My Rogue Cell couldn't be stopped that night.

Last week, I threw my lowest of the season with a 145 to open up and couldn't make it past 160 that night.

I just have to relax and take it shot by shot as Lefty mentioned.

I had a slow start too, but only cause I am just back to the game. A game I last played almost 25 years ago ;-). That said it is slowly coming back, very slowly..lol! It was personal victory on Monday (week3) when I rolled 195,175 and the low score being a 155. But was a step in the right direction!!!! Relax, have fun and it will all get better. At least that worked when I was a kid when I last bowled!

Considering I bowled better in the Summer than I ever have in my life I should of expected a let down once fall started. I'm bowling well enough, but you know when you score well, but you feel like you bowled horrible and shot a good score in spite of your form? I am lucking out that I know my equipment well enough to put the right ball in my hand in spite of my weakness in form to still score well.

Nevermind that it doesn't help that our proprietor has no spine and has put out a new shot every week in an attempt to appease bowlers who will never average more than 185, but think the right pattern will make them average 220 over night.

And footwork and slide have been way off since bowling a scratch tourney early in the month. Started league 620, 630, 710 (sweet we're in business)(bowled the scratch tourney later that week), 560, 630, 630. Got myself on camera and also redrilling up some oldie but goodie storm pieces to give me a comfort level and better look with new span and pitches than my motivs which havent been matching up. Probably going to get back to my storm/roto roots and drill newer stuff when i get acclimated to the old stuff.

I am in the starting slow boat also and must say it is quite aggravating. Week one went ok, but it has been down hill since there. I bowl in 3 league and in one league I am down 22 pins in average and in one other I bowl a 450 set, which is my lowest in quite some time. This week has started better, I have shot in the 190's in game one in two leagues and 230 and 240 in game 2, but tailed off in both game 3's. So it is coming together, just not how I had envisioned it.

We are going into week five. I have yet to break 600. I dropped done in weight from 16 to 14 and dropped my Robby's rev. I think it will get better with time. I have also limited my arsenal to a plastic, a Karma Urethane and a Tropical Heat. By the end of the year I hope to be a better bowler.

I start out every Winter season slow.  With the warmer weather in September and October, I have to play deeper inside and move more over the course of a set.  Once the weather starts cooling off, though, I can play closer to the ball track, and not have to move my feet nearly as much.

It's bowling....some days are better than others.  Fixing a slump could take days or years....I just go back to basics...if that means I suck at league or in tournaments for a while so be it....trying new things under pressure is a true test and I'm ok with a few weeks in the tank if it means I come back a better bowler...even when I'm bowling decent every ball is a learning opportunity.  Here's to climbing out of the hole...good luck.

I hear ya....my averages are down 15, 22 and 30 pins this season.

I have been trying to overcome some extremely wet/dry conditions. Despite the weaker arsenal this season I am still not having much luck.

Grape Vibe, Blue Vibe, Pink/Purple Karma. Jet....

I am being forced deeper on the lane than I am comfortable with so I just need to get used to playing this shot and go from there.

Doug,

Sand 1 or 2 of your weaker balls to 4000 grit. I am seeing that same wet/dry and my average is down 18 pins, until I tried this. Got that surface on a 300T, an Orange Recon and my Blue Green Centaur. Will try 2000 grit on an AScent Solid soon.

Also trying 6" pin-PAP, pin over middle finger with 3000 & 4000 + polish on some medium oil balls.
