Activator coverstock- Anybody ever had one die?
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:49:50 AM »
My original inferno seemed to lose a lot of its reaction a while back, so I tried the hot water  ( and other ) heat methods, but NOTHING ever came out of the ball.

I cleaned it, altered the surface and cleaned it again, used a hair dryer, left it in the car, but NOTHING ever comes out.

I'm going to run it through the dishwasher and see if that has any results, but as of yet, I have had no success in getting the reaction back to where it was.  The ball just doesn't seem to want to read the breakpoint.

It is drilled with a modified RICo drilling ( the pin is up just a hair and the weighthole isn't 6 3/4 inches down because that would put it in my flare rings ).  I loved this ball, it is the one I shot my 800 series with.  I sure would like to be able to use it again.

Needs to be on a Rejuvenator machine, set at 135-140 and bleed all day. It is common for me to see Activator covers in the machine when I go into the pro shop.

The Vapor Zone and Absolute inferno actually will bleed out some pigments of color, does not effect anything these balls usually come back from the dead every time from what I hear from the pro shop guys.

So yes activator covers respond well to constant heat and it can be brought back dont give up yet.

I've had my Strike Zone(Activator Solid) and 2 Vapor Zones(Activator+) die on me.

The Vapor Zone's were weird because one had a 100+ games on it in a matter of months and the other had about 10, they both lasted about the same amount of time only about 3-4months.

While not a rejuvenator, I have put the ball into a constant heat state of around 200 degrees for an extended period ( left it in a locked car, covered with a dark towel for several hours, probably 6-7 ) and have NEVER had ANYTHING bleed out, no matter WHAT I've done to it. Other than that, I don't know what else to do. I live almost 100 miles from the nearest shop with a rejuvenator .

I know this technique works, I did the same exact thing to several other balls and every time it brought them back to life, bleeding, at times, copious amounts of conditioner out of them, including a track mutant that was so dead it wouldn't even hook on a dried up lane.  Afterwards, it was almost as good as new. ( Apologies to any english majors about the run-on sentence )

I am at a loss on this one though, it seems. I have used several techniques on it this time, including the dishwasher method.  I am going to take it to the shop and have the surface restored to factory finish tomorrow and try it out tomorrow night.  I will post the results here. Hopefully they will be good.

OI after a decent while though. Good maintainer/cleaner been rejuvenated and resurfaced by Big B booth at Nationals. Ball just doesn't pop like it used to. His Time Zone (PK18) still kicks nicely.

O.K., here's the story.  Got to the lanes early tonight and went straight to the shop.  Got the abralon out and started at 500, then 1000.  Figured that was close enough to see the results, so I used finnesse-it over the 1000 abralon.

Ball didn't seem to want to shine at first.  I really had to lay on it pretty hard and "spot" polish it until I had a gloss finish, then went over the entire ball again.  This time she shined up like a new dollar.

First practice ball and I am afraid of what I will see.  I make my delivery and, lo and behold, she read the lane like a champ!  Made that nice midlane roll and finished as smooth as silk, blowing pins everywhere.  I was tickled.

I proceeded to throw several shots during practice, all with the same results, so I decided to run with it.  If it hadn't been for a couple of bonehead shots ( operator error ) I could've shot a ton.  As it was, I still made 721.

I think I've got her back. I'm going to try to make sure she never leaves again.
