awkard lane coutesy incident
« on: March 19, 2009, 06:07:24 AM »
so i was open bowling the other day with my friend. there was a league that was next to us but a full pair was between my pair and the league. my friend is interested in getting better so after we warmed up we were going to do come swing drills. we went up on the right lane (the league is on our right). i proceed to tell him "put your weight on your non sliding foot with the ball at you side." all of a sudden i hear HEEELLLOOOOOOOOOOOO. HELLOOOOOOOOO. i turn around, its this middle age bowler yelling at me to get off the approach so he could bowl. i watch him throw a ball and just laugh. the guy was just an aweful league bowler that chucks it up 10. i guess he needs 3 lanes of courtesy to throw a shot. what more funny is that the league is only allowed 1 lane courtesy so the employee intentionally set up open bowlers on the lane next to us (so there is still one lane between them and the league) just to screw with the guy. it provided entertainment to say the least.

At tourenments we only give 1 lane and in league most league bowler want what seems like 12 lanes. Its twisted and people will never understand it. If 1 person waits for 2 lanes lefted and right you will never finish league in a reasonable amount of time. 1 lane is all anyone ever needs . Most of the time lane courtesy is just a reason for someone to complain and blame when they choke

In league play 1 lane is, and should be the norm. In tournaments and the more competitive environments, it should be 2 lanes. Thats my biggest pet peeve, people that don't understand lane courtesy

So the house employee intentionally pi$$ed off a league member for your amusement.
Nice way to teach courtesy.

What bothers me even worse than knucklehead wanting more than a lane's worth of courtesy, is those wanting all that courtesy and THEN taking ridiculous amounts of time to take the d@mned shot...I've had more than one debate with slow people who complain to me about giving them only one lane courtesy, and my reply is always that part of lane courtesy is taking you turn within a reasonable amount of time...

No one should be given a 2 lane courtesy.  A 2 lane courtesy is why it takes 4 hours to bowl 3 games in a quads league.

The PBA doesn't even give 2 lane courtesy, they give a one pair courtesy which is a bit different.

If you can't throw your ball unless someone is 2 lanes away you don't deserve to bowl.

I agree. I'm sick of people who can't even average 160 thinking they need like, 13 lanes.

I'm equally as sick of the people that average 200 on their china shot and think they have the right to jump up on you just because they think they're the hottest thing since sliced bread.

I'm all for one lane the rest comes down to you and focus.

I will wait sometimes because there are just certain people you can't bowl next to while they are up there. Like guy that lofts the ball 15' feet down the lane.

Or about 3-4 weeks ago when I bowled city tournament one pair to the left of us was a women that bowled with a short 2-step approach. So anytime she was on the right lane I would wait an extra 20 secs for her to go. Which worked great cause I shot 300-809. (just wasn't use to seeing her, it was different)

On my regular league we have a team with two people in wheel chairs and I can have one lane all day because I'm use to it.

As far as someone with the front 9 or finishing a shot at 800 I prefer to give them at least 2 lanes. Plus I want to see them shoot it and not be the donkey up there going step for step with them if they miss.

I do not know how you can bowl in league or a tournament and NOT know what your score, string, possible total and how that affects the team and its chance of winning!

At the very least, wouldn't you analyze your shots, learning from them if they are flush, light, high or whatever?

quote]I had some dude get all bent out of shape at me because he had the front seven during league and I had the nerve to speak to him.
I prefer people to not tell me how many strikes I have going in a string.  I bowl better when I don't know.  I particularly dislike when the house goes quiet and only then does it dawn on me that I have a long string going.  More often then not in either case I end up psyching myself out and leaving a ten pin (or worse).  But hey, I don't go ballistic either, just kick myself and vow to work on my mental game.
um wow is all I would have to say. I think I would tell him to take a hike. Of course that would depend how he said it. If he said it politely, I would ask him why he thinks he is in a PBA tournament. If it was meant to be rude I may take a more vulgar approach. I really don't know what I would do. It wouldn't be my first confrontation with someone during league so I wouldn't be totally afraid. Wow.

we had a good competitive friday night league for years at an AMF center.... i bowled in the league for 4 years and ever year it got smaller and smaller..AMF pretty much ran it down..(bad shot, dirty pits counters etc etc, bad employment) well this year a couple of teams moved to the other league that bowls there... we NOW have a curfew, be done by nine.... at nine it turns into moonlight/xtreme bowln or whatevr the F k they call it and they put open bowlers(parties screamn kids, etc etc) RIGHT next to the first lane the league starts....  sorry if this is a lil of topic!!

I'm with you, Cheech!

Some fat bitch yelled at me 4 lanes away because she said I was bowling at nearly the same time as her.

Like a lot of the members have said, if your mental game is that bad, work on that. If me bowling next to you, distracts you, obviously, you aren't focusing on your shot, rather, your peripheral vision.

God, I hate people.

Should've thrown a bowling ball at his face.

Things I have encountered in recent times:

- Complaint from fat bithc who was bowling on 11-12 when I was practicing on 5-6. She told the desk that it was their position round to win the half (ma & pa league) and I was distracting the bowlers. The desk basically told her "too bad".

- 140 average old man throwing his ball down on the ball return when someone else stepped up on him 2 lanes away.

- Multiple lower average bowlers insisting on 2 lane courtesy.

- A teammate (200 avg) who insists on 3 lane courtesy.

This is another reason that leagues are suffering. It just takes too long to bowl the 3 games.
