About award rings... and sizing
« on: December 02, 2003, 09:11:09 AM »
I've received my 800 ring (the free one, not the $500.00 gold one) and the thing is about 1 size too big.

I went to the jeweler and he said that there was nothing that he could do to make it smaller.

He said that since it is pure steel, that he can't get it hot enough to melt it and add anything to it to make it smaller and even if he could get it hot enough, that it would run the risk of making the ruby stone come out.

He said that my best bet would be to send it back to Keepsake and see if they would give me a another "smaller" one, but I don't really think that they would do that.

So what do I do?

Is this guy a moron or is he right? Should I take it to another jeweler? Or send it back to Keepsake?

A whole size off?  Did you get your finger measured before you ordered it?  They offer 1/4 sizes.  Anyway, to answer your question...  I think their form does say something about offering free resizing.  You should still have their 800 number.  Call them and see what they say.

Keepsake calls those silver rings Siladium.  They'll accept your ring back and send you a new one in the correct size.  You might want to visit a jeweler and have your finger sized for a closed-back ring for a proper fit.

Congrats on the 800

To rise in defense of the jeweler, he is correct in what he told you.  He would have to heat the ring to a very high temerature in order to manually resize it.  Such a high temp would crack, scald, or just plain ruin the stone.  I took a sterling silver WW2 air force ring to a jeweler to have it repaired only to learn the same thing.

So no, the jeweler is not a moron.

Yep. Keepsake told me the same thing. I was talking with them a while back about upgrading my 800 ring, and mentioned the size thing.. I wanted the gold ring, because it could be sized easier than the seladium. They told me if I needed the seladium ring sized, just to send it back - they're equipped to do it. Now - I don't know if they were just going to resize it, or if they menat send a new one.

BTW - I didn't upgrade my ring. I found out something really interesting.
They make the seladium ring in two "head" sizes - smaller for ring sizes 9 and under, and larger, for ring sizes 9.5 and up. Since I'm female, I wanted the smaller size head. They don't make the smaller head size in the upgrades. Therefore, I didn't upgrade the ring.

Thanks for the help!!!

Yeah, this ring is a full size too big... I had my finger measured at 10.5 and then 6 weeks later I had it re-measured at 9.5 so I don't know what in the world happened?

Also, my "original" ring tells my name, date, and actual score that I shot, and I'm wondering if when I send it back to them and then they send me another smaller size 800 ring, will they also engrave my name, date, and actual score that I shot in the "new" one also just like they did in my original one??? Or will they just send me a smaller ring and then I'll just have to get the Jewelry store to do the engraving???

Anybody know?

I think you'll get a replacement exactly like the one you send in. I would think this would include engraving.
Keepsake's phone number is on the honor score form. Give 'em a call and ask! Then let us all know the answer.

I have the same problemn with my 300 ring. My finger shrunk and I haven't been able to wear it for the last 6 years or so.
