US Open/Declines and MD's
« on: October 25, 2017, 12:30:20 AM »
If I wasnt sure about the state of bowling, boy, was taking a look at the list for the US Open a pretty sobering reality. So many household names (professional and top amateurs) declined the invitation or Md (missed the deadline).

The common theme for most of the invitees that aren't participating is they have a job.

Unless you are one of the superstars the bowling fairytale comes to an end at some point.

Well it's the same as people who don't bowl local tournaments.  If they don't think they have a chance to make money or at least get some of it back, they're not going to bowl.  The brains have made competing so cost prohibitive and the reward is not worth the risk by a long shot, so no wonder people aren't going.  People can try to cram prestige down my throat all they want, but it comes down to dollars and cents unless you're independently wealthy.  I had some loon try to convince me Anthony LaCaze didn't care about making 40 grand at nationals a couple years ago because it was all about the eagles . . yeah right.  People aren't going to go spend a couple grand on an "experience," when even bowling excellent may mean barely breaking even.  Now if this was a PGA tournament where you could go finish last and still make 10 grand, it would likely be a different story.

What a dope. I know Tony Lacaze personally (wolfpack, stand up) and you can bet your ass USBC's is like a pay day for him, the eagles are just a throw in.

These double burn clips online look god awful. Literally just trying to throw hard and straight Brooklyn. WRW Jr, you could tell was trying but it's just slightly outside his realm to loft from the lane next to him and carry.

Modern balls have made long formats played on so called double burn an unplayable environment without massive speed and revs.

i think the only guy throwing straight balls was Chris Warren. Like straight at the headpin.

It seems as if the best looks are those that can jam urethane from out with 500+ rpms on it and those that can get it 25+ feet in the air from in on the late blocks.

Who would have guessed it?

I'm curious what Duke has been doing. Sitting in 2nd with 2 more games to go behind Cimimelli

Edit: saw video showing Norm playing a tight line from 5th arrow with a Timeless
