Johnny Petraglia scoring system
« on: April 12, 2009, 05:50:16 AM »
Not a bad system. The only flaw I see is if a bowler throws a gutter ball on his first shot there should be some kind of penalty. A gutter/2nd ball spare shouldn't be the same as a 9/2nd ball spare. A first ball gutter should net a 1 or 2 point penatly at the very least.

Thoughts?

I thought it was an interesting concept...But not very exciting to watch.  Really quite boring...  In the summer we have a league that has a side pot golf game.  They select 18 random frames over the 3 games and your first ball count determines your score for the hole.  A strike equals -1.  A 9 count equals E. an 8 count is +1 and so on.  A gutter would be +9 for the hole.  Spares don't matter.

Hated it.  But the worst part of it is that they "marketed" it as the Johnny Petraglia scoring system.  This system has been thought of and talked about for many years.  I used it when I used to coach bowlers as a "fun" way to see how well they would shoot spares.  In most cases I applaud new concepts, but this is just so far away from what we are used to, it would never work.

As for the show, they should not have been allowed to stay on one lane for their whole game.

Why?  Wasn't it fair for everyone since they all stayed on their same lane?  --  JohnP

No!

It apeared, as per usual, that some lanes are either better or worse than others. Seemed like the left and the right lanes were ... less good.
The Center lane was better, for any of various reasons.

They all should have bowled on one pair to even out the inequities of variances.

Seems only fair.

I was surprised they let CDB stay on the same lane for the title match after she had struck out.

I didn't hear how they determined who would bowl on which lane for the title.

But obviously she had a better look on the middle lane than she had on the left lane the first game.
