Anyone have this happen? -Update
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:47:51 PM »
First I'd like to say I am not looking for medical advice.  I am calling the doctor in the AM.

Tonight in the 7th frame of the 2nd game I was shooting the 7 pin.  As I came through to release the ball, I felt a pop at the back of the left knee.  I nearly fell, but got all the weight transferred to the right leg and avoided the fall.  I turned to get off the approach and could not put any weight on the left leg.  I managed to get to the ball return and get off the approach.  While most of the pain is in the back of the knee, there is a feeling like a bruise on the front left side of the knee.  Anyone have this happen and what was the outcome?  Like I said, I am calling the doctor in the morning, but just want to get an idea of what I might be in for.

Is/was there any bruising?  Usually a snapped tendon will be accompaned with bruising.

ANYTIME you have a "POP" come from your knee followed by instability, it doesn't look good.  Hope it isn't serious after you get it checked out.

PCL injury. Any popping sound/feel is usually something to do with the ligament. Pull, strain or separation.
You should have gone to the E.R. and had it treated/diagnosed right away. No matter how you guard against moving the affected area, just normal movement with a damaged ligament can/ will only make it worse.
Make sure you can wiggle your toes. This indicates that there's no nerve damamge below the injury site.
Make sure that your toes/foot are warm and pink. This indicates that you have good circulation below the injury site.
 Keep us posted.....

Thank you for the replies.

I have been sore for about a week or so.  I though it was due to bowling 21 games in a week with more of a power step.  Tonight it was actually feeling pretty good, a little sore until the pop.

There is no bruising, but there is a bump on the left of the knee cap that is not present on the right knee.  One of the ladies on the opposing team noticed it.  I don't know if it has always been that way or if it's related to the pop.

I am sure glad I no longer drive a stick shift.  I hope it is not anything serious and just needs some R&R.

I can wiggle the toes and the leg and foot are warm and pink.  I thought about going to the ER, but just didn't want to be there until 1 AM.  If the Urgent Care were open, I'd have headed there, but they close at 2PM on Sunday.

I may just head to the Urgent Care in the morning, I think they open about 2 hours before the regular office opens.

I just got back from Urgent Care, my Primary Care Physician is out today.  After examining the knee/leg and taking x-rays, the diagnosis is torn muscle.  So she wants me off work until Thursday and no bowling for two weeks.  She also want me to follow up with my PCP next week and Advil for pain.

I'd get to an orthopedist immediately if I were you.  Urgent care docs and GPs are not the best guys to diagnose these things.

Knee injuries are very difficult to diagnose, and even harder to treat.  PCL surgery has a really high failure rate.  If you can avoid surgery and do PT instead, do it.

The urgent care center misdiagnosed my torn ACL years ago. They put me in a brace to immobilize it and gave me pain meds. The next day the orthopedic surgeon saw me and gave me the real story...  Good luck with for a speedy recovery.
