anyone having thumb problems due to the winter
« on: December 13, 2005, 10:07:40 AM »
well since i live in pa the weather has been rather cold lately. Today at practice i had to put at least 3 pieces of tape in every ball i owned because my fingers and thumb had become smaller. just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what you do besides using tape.

No thumb problems here in Michigan since I started using Ron's magic carpet.

I have this problem but have it solved with tape.  The problem I was having was with the tape.  I have been using the brand "bowlers tape" Black to snug up the thumb.  Well with this tape I could snug up the thumb perfect but when I would release the ball I would hang.  Basically the black tape was not slick enough.

So I started to look into getting the "slick tape" that I have read about.  Well this past Sunday at league I went into the pro shop and the guy pointed me too Ebonites brand of black tape called " Ultra-Grip Black tape 1".  This tape is thicker than the bowlers tape brand.  Next, this black tape is SLICK.  The tape almost feels like thin pieces of plastic.  Well I put it in the thumb and got a perfect tight fit.  I go to release the ball and I come out of it perfect.  This stuff is awesome.  I will be buying a case of this tape.  I wish I would have tried this before.

So give this tape a try and you wont regret it.

I live in PA too and I'm sick of this sh*t.  Summer can't fit the thumb into the ball, open everything up to a good fit. Winter have to reslug all the balls because no amount of tape is going to give me a good fit.

Bowled last night...Put 3 tapes in before we started...by the 3rd game had to add 3 more.  By the end of the 3rd game...had to take 3 out.  Time for Switch Grip...

well...here's a weird one.

I bowl left and naturally have my wedding ring on.

As my fingers get smaller in winter that thing is shifting all around!!
Besides having to add tape.

So the thing was botherin the crXP out of me last night!!

Slidin up and down....took it off!

Bowled a little better.

Only happens on the really cold nights.
