Anyone here bowl Holiday Lanes in Pittsburg, Ks?
« on: November 17, 2004, 05:01:07 AM »
I will be heading down south this weekend to meet up with family and friends for Thanksgiving and plan to do some bowling.  I have heard they did some tinkering with the shot at the house and want to make sure I bring the right equipment.  If anyone has any knowledge, please let me know.  Thanks!

No sir, but I do work and bowl at Holiday Lanes in Lansing, MI.

It's kind of hard to read the lanes if you don't know their language...

It has been about 20 years so any information I would have is dated.

Chicken Annie’s is great and I love the onion rings.

Take in Big Brutus as well.

Thanks Bones, I have bowled there before.  Very nice and well kept house and usually pretty busy.  Love the Quartermania Wednesdays, and the people there are typically pretty nice.  I might have to do some name dropping now.  So if I mention Doc James, do I see the red carpet as they are escorting me out the door?    I might have to get some tips from you on how to hustle up a game with some of their league regulars

BTW, I have eaten Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's, as well as Barto's.  Barto's is the worst of the bunch.  Horton's Pizza and Kevin's Beef Jerky RULES

We've been going to the Four-States for a few years now.  One guy that goes with us always does extremely well there.  He has a heavy forward roll with good speed.

What we've found the last few years is a very high scoring shot between 2nd and 3rd arrow with a small swing.  The Guardian heads break down awfully bad and you must move in or find a way around this.  Big sets are difficult to come by due to funny carry, but big games are frequent.

When they are fresh, it will seem like the backends are screaming, but this calms down quickly when the oil carries down off the Guardian.  This smooths out the shot and the big scores really get popped until the heads get scorched.  If you bowl real late, be ready for fried heads with weak backends.

Oh yeah, fill up on Chicken Annie's or Mary's.  Try the pie too.
