What do you mean every drilling is off?
« on: June 17, 2008, 06:24:05 AM »
I had some tweaking done to my RG Illusion yesterday.  New inserts and worked on the thumb a bit.  I had only put about 5 games total on it since purchasing because it just didn't fit right.

Went to my fave pro shop, Revs Inc, and they took care of me.  Now the ball floats effortlessly off of my hand.  Great!

Then I pick up my RG Neptune and then my Mystic.  Something is wrong.  So I take them into the pro shop and find out that the finger pitches on both balls is wrong.    BTW, Revs didn't drill them.  Another shop did.

So, now I have to get 4 balls fixed.

Not blaming anyone really.  The more I bowl, the more I learn and I should have known and/or realized that my pitches were off by feel.  But until I got the Illusion fixed, I didn't have a good reference.

Oh well.  So how is your day?

That is why i trust K & K Bowling Services only to drill my stuff, every other Vegas pro shop i have tried just honestly sucks. They will lie and tell you they are dead nuts on then you go bowl and the ball hangs up and you find out it off by 1/8th and pitches are not even close.

I've had many people stop into the shop to get a ball drilled after which they comment on how it feels different than their others.  Usually, when I measure their old equipment it will be between 1/8" and 1/4" longer in span, have a ton more reverse in the thumb, and actually have forward (towards palm) pitch in fingers AND have lifts installed!  These spans will be drilled to completely stretch their hands out to the very last finger joint, etc.  BTW, never have I had a person say their "old" spans (the stretched out ones with all the reverse in the thumb) felt better than the properly fit ones.  Usually, they come in after throwing the new ball for a little while and say that they can't hold onto their old equipment any longer...

With that being said, spans and pitches should be checked and updated on a regular basis.. over time your hand does indeed change... flexibility, etc.

I went through this last fall.  I wasn't happy with my ball reaction and I couldn't get out of the ball clean, so I had another shop look over my arsenal.  Span, pitches, layouts, everything was wrong.

I sold everything and started over.  Average went back up to where it should be and I posted a couple honor scores.

I was upset about the money I lost and low scores I had posted, but in the end it was worth it.

Part of the problem is/was the first ball I had drilled at the other shop was the Mystic.  Driller was experienced so I actually used the Mystic as my benchmark for the other equipment.

Second and third balls drilled were the Horizon Solid and Neptune.  2 different drillers, (1 experienced, 1 apprentice), did the work.

Last ball drilled was the Illusion.  Used the Mystic as the benchmark again.  But now the Illusion is the benchmark and I'm having everything else re-worked.

Hopefully I can get them all back this week because I have a tourney on Sunday and I need the practice.
