Anyone own two urethanes?
« on: December 16, 2016, 01:28:20 PM »
I'm really enjoying my blue hammer at 5K. The most consistent ball in the bag which allows me to play in my comfort zone which is the track to outside area. Other balls in my bag pushes me left quickly, or I start the night inside the track. I've done well playing inside, but I'm not as comfortable as I am with straighter lines. Playing inside, or deep inside, is relatively new to me as my game developed over the last 2-3 years.

Anyway, since I like the blue hammer I thought about the Black Hammer. I was wondering if the black hammer can handle more oil than the blue.? I really don't need the black urethane, but I just like smooth rolling balls.

What 2 urethane balls do you like?
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Reactive resin doesn't work on today's conditions IMO (at least THS).

Why not??
Hooks too much or early causing splits and light hits.  At least for those with higher rev rates.  It's no wonder many PBA bowlers are using urethane now (the ones with higher revs or 2 handed releases), while many others are using weaker reactive resins.  I know some when they do the shows use their higher rated hook potential balls but this past week several guys of the 4 balls they had listed, were using balls with hook ratings of 5 or under (on scale 1-10).  Obviously for tournaments and sport conditions, reactive has its place, but for THS or shorter patterns, its too much of a hassle trying to keep the ball to stay in the pocket.

Currently carry an AMF Hype, Lane #1 Liberator, Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle, and Brunswick Edge (spare ball) for any league. Urethane give me the best look I can hope for on usual THS. Most reactives force me deeper inside than I'd like, which is a constant struggle being a left hander with a decent amount of hand and speed. Hype can handle up to mediums, Liberator is step down with more length and "finish", Gargoyle is another step down from that (rarely needed). Majority of the time I am able to throw the Liberator for full sets. Occasionally, I will need to use the Hype instead, and will ball down to Liberator 3rd game or so. I am slightly concerned my Hype may have separated (makes a hollow thud when contacting other balls on the rack) and none of the current lineup of urethanes have similar stats.

Own? Yes. Use very often? No. I've got a Sumo from the late 80's, a Purple Hammer & a Blue Hammer from the same era, and I've got a Ogre Urethane. I've used the Purple a couple of times in the last year, haven't thrown the others in a few years.
