quote:
You don't need mumbo jumbo mental books to become a better bowl.  Your mental game comes from within.  You must believe in yourself, it must start at your heart and travel to your mind.  You must believe in your heart and in your mind that you can do anything you set both on a path to do.

If you do not believe in yourself, maybe the books help a little bit.  Nothing will make your mental game better if you do NOT BELIEVE in yourself.

A lot of your pro sport stars who are into this, are head cases themselves and they need somebody to gather all thats in their head and put it back into place for them.  They don't have the ability to do that themselves for a wide variety of reasons and need to seek out books or professionals in this subject.  Deep down inside they struggle with their own self worth, and self confidence in some situations.

You might find help with the books...and you may not...but it all starts from within.   Mental demons are all around us, the more times you put yourself in a successful situation the greater your mental game will grow.  Success is confidence , try your best to achieve success in everything you do and you will find confidence.  That confidence will carry over into everything you do, bowling, selling, teaching etc.  The mental game isn't just bowling, it's all around us every day, it's life.

I do not understand why people are bashing these types of books. Some people can read a book and do what it says, while others have to do it to understand it. I am in the latter of the two categories. I can not read a book and understand it. I have to do it to understand it.

I say, if you feel that you WANT to read it, then buy it and read it. I know that it is 30bucks plus shipping and all that, but if YOU feel that it is going to help you then by all means buy it.

Bowling is 90% mental, yet very few bowlers ever consider a "mental coach" or reading a book about the mental game.  I think 'bowling 300 900' argument is off.  Yes, the mental starts from within, but how to best apply knowledge, confidence and self understanding is what a mental coach/book can provide.  There isn't an athlete alive that never lost his confidence at one point or another.

As a golfer and bowler, I wanted to understand myself more.  To change my views of my game, to help me excel.  I purchased "Zen Golf", for 17 bucks at Borders.  Just about all of it can be applied to bowling, golfing or life in general.

I wish Doc was back on, he would definitely back me up on this.  His favorite mental game book, golfing related of course, is "Golf: How Good Do you want to be?".  He said he keeps on his nightstand.

Go to a local book store, maybe you can find a golf book or another book for less, or just one to read a few paragraphs from to see what you think.

Good indepth book.
Simmilar to Focused for Bowlng but more ideas and examples of how and why they worked.
Im a bit of a bookworm especially bowling ones and you would benifit from this book no matter what your average.
I agree with some of what bowling 300 900 said but it does have some very interesting ideas that helped most of Team USA and if they helped them then it will help almost everyone.
Hope you enjoy it if you do get it. I did.

I was actually given Focused For Bowling today by my coach and she said that it is a really good book. So if she says that it is a good book, then I am going to read it.

I asked her about reading mental books and she said read all that you can, the only thing it can do is HELP your game improve. So I will say, if you want to read it, then read it. Get all the information that you can, from any source that you can.
